yup

stckhlm cnd (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

1347. But also a brilliant year as the manpower shortage allowed peasant artisans to shatter feudal wage control.

I Ain't No Addict, Whoever Heard of a Junkie as Old as Me? (noodle vague), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

it started out great but got progressively worse each day.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

it has totally been a shit year! i'm relying so much on '06.

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

that's what i said about '05 in '04.

stckhlm cnd (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

my horoscope was right. :-(

stckhlm cnd (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

every year sucks so much ass, since about 1987. maybe I'll give you 1992 if I'm generous.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

no, '92 sucked as well

gear (gear), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

i'm willing to trade '05 for '02 and possible future draft considerations. you have to take the full cap hit this season, though.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

This year was going okay until August, but this month has been a fucking nightmare.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

better than last year!

strng hlkngtn (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

Feb-June was okay, shit hit the fan in July and it's just gotten worse.

tsunami
London
New Orleans
Iraq, cont'd

gear (gear), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

this was my best year since 2002, but next year will almost certainly be better than this one.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

0-sum month here too...

The Original Jimmy Mod: Waiting for the return of the Lohan's titties (The Famo, Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

this has been a pretty crap year for me, too

2004 was a mixed bag, started off shitty, got totally awesome for about 6 months, then took a total nosedive into shitdom around september '04

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 1 September 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

every year i have seems to contain more extreme good AND bad than the preceding year. it makes it hard to sum up the goodness of a year. maybe year fullness is the thing i should be looking for?

carly (carly), Thursday, 1 September 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

i almost quoted a death cab for cutie lyric here--that's the kind of year it's been

Consider, ladies & gentlemen, the alternative...

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 1 September 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

this whole century has gotten off to an abysmal start

Veline, Thursday, 1 September 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

Last century didn't start so hot either

The Original Jimmy Mod: Waiting for the return of the Lohan's titties (The Famo, Thursday, 1 September 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

last century started off with millions of europeans coming to america to start new lives, women getting the right to vote, the creation of new york's subway system, the birth of aviation... not too bad.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 1 September 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

Along with Yellow Fever outbreaks, rampant poverty, a powder keg in europe, segregation, 1/2 the world's population disenfranchised, children in the workplace...

This century so far has been shit for me.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 1 September 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

Yep, I'm holding out for the next one.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 1 September 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

It's been fairly okay for me. I just slop along as normal. Sometimes I feel i'm in a bit of a rut, but it's a nice enough rut, so ...

C J (C J), Thursday, 1 September 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

2005 has been a lot better than 2004!

(Sorry to be a contrary ray of hope here, but then again, 2004 was one of the worst years in ages.)

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Thursday, 1 September 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

2005 has been quite good! Much better than 2003 for example. Next year, crossing my fingers, the year will start fantastic: with a baby! :-))))))))))))))))))))

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Thursday, 1 September 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

The usual mixed bag. The badness this year HAS been much heavier than usual from my perspective though, if still mostly external.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

this has been a terrible year, for london, for ilx, for me, and also for lots of other places.

N_RQ, Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

all odd numbered years have been rubbish for me so far this century.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

Well, the external stuff this year was quite horrible. But the internal, personal stuff has been OK. Or maybe I'm just coked to the gills on SSRIs?

2000 was good, 2001 was awful, 2002 was yucky, 2003 was GRATE!!!, 2004 was terrible, 2005 is a mixed bag but dealing a lot better than I used to.

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

2003 and 2005 have very similar qualities to them. i don't know which one wins just yet in being the worst.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

i don't find it easy to dissociate the personal from the 'external', i spose, but both have been awful in different and sometimes connecting ways.

N_RQ, Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

I often think if I had good health, I'd never moan again about ordinary life stuff. But this probably wouldn't be the case. I'd sure like the chance to test it though.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

i want to go bowling every day until 2006 arrives.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Do it!

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

i dunno whether i can afford it though! but maybe i will. it'll cheer me up

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

The bad bits of this year have been exceptionally bad by anyone's standards and I'm sure everyone knows what they were. But on a personal point of view there's absolutely nothing I would've done differently, and I certainly couldn't have said that about 2004. There've been some ridiculous highs this year as well. Of course it could all start crumbling in the next few months but still...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

On a personal level it's the lousiest year since 2001 - more bereavements in both friends and family than I can care to recall, career grinding to a halt/going nowhere, etc. Still, at least I'm getting out and about again.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 1 September 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

was a great year until being sick for the last 2 months. still could be good if I am better soon, as I suppose I will be.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, I had a very old friend (since the late '80s, I guess) die in June. Then Liz in July. Now I am waiting to hear whether I have lung cancer or not. And I got married on September 1st 1981 - split up in 2001 - so today has its extra bonus pains too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

jesus, martin: i'm sorry to hear that. i sincerely hope everything's all right.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 September 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

i want to go bowling every day until 2006 arrives

Ken, this is what it’d cost you to bowl for the rest of the year. Starting from tomorrow…

1 game per day = £770.00
2 games per day = £1386.00
3 games per day = £1540.00

I win 1st prise for the sad bored person at work award.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

1st prise

kinky.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Oops! Z

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Thinking things over, one of the most eventful years of my entire life so far. Mostly good tinged with bits of bad and sad, I suppose.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

This year has been both the best and the worst, and I'm still struggling with that concept.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

gosh i can't believe happiness would cost me £770 :(

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

wait.. does bowling really cost £6.40 a game these days?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

i think first time i met RJG i was selling him things

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

1 game per day = £770.00

I don't understand, if one game costs 6,40 pounds how do you come to 770 pounds per day? Yeah, ignorance is def not bliss. ;-)

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

It's £770 for the remainder of this YEAR, no?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

that's what i thought... £770 for 120 or so days of bowling sounds like a lot!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

The 120 Days Of Bowling. Ken's cod-Sade novel!

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Thursday, 1 September 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

rest of the year = 154 days.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Ah okay. Note to self: read entire post including text in italics.

nathalie's pocket revolution (stevie nixed), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

I was quite cheery until I read this thread. Oh well, back to my pit of despair.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

I suppose the thread does what it says on the tin, mind.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

xxxpost
is this a leap year or something?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Apparently 2006 is going to be amazing, I overheard it in the pub last night.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

What should Ken give up in order to finance his bowling habit?

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

cocaine?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

fried chicken?

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

This year has been one of enforced stasis and slightly fraying patience on many fronts. Not thrilling but my situation could be a lot worse and there is promise on the horizon. (As well as in my CD player.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

2002 was a fairly decent year for me -- the best one I can remember. This year started blandly, turned dismal in late April, moved back up to mediocrity two weeks later, and it's been rolling slowly downhill since June.

Ian Riese-Moraine: a casualty of society's derangement. (Eastern Mantra), Thursday, 1 September 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

January was great. It all seemed to go downhill from there. Anyway, I'm already in 2006, happy new year.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

This year has been one of enforced stasis and slightly fraying patience on many fronts

but there was, of course, that joyous night when you met me for the first time.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

as for me ... i dunno. time is but a theoretical construct. i can't be bothered comparing years. that said: this year has been a lot less stressful than last year, certainly.

there are peaks and troughs; always peaks and troughs. nothing gets better or worse just because a calendar flips over.

unless you're at school, i guess.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

but there was, of course, that joyous night when you met me for the first time.

Ah, you see, that was a definite bright spot. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 September 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

well, i got to see New Orleans last year.

this year...

Josh Love (screamapillar), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

martin, i'm hoping the absolute best for you.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

January and May: Awesome. Completely over the top.
February: Worst month I have ever experienced in life.
August: Second worst etc etc.
March-midApril: pretty shitty as well, though some bright spots.
June and July on the whole pretty average.

Fingers crossed for Sept.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

awful year. and worse because i brought much of the badness on myself, which further depresses me. i've spent an appalling amount of time and money this year getting fucked up. it's had its moments, but not many. i need to quit whining and do some positive things for myself. need some peace. or something. i dunno.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

This has been cumulatively one of the best and most dynamic years of my life so far. I feel happier, or at least better prepared to experience happiness, than I have since my junior year of high school. Actually, I don't know if my mean level of happiness would be so hot if calculated given the wild turns of fortune, but the mode is pretty great.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's weird: I don't really think of years as being especially good or bad, either. It all seems to balance out, pretty much.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

i don't normally think of years in this way either. but the timing of personal shit this year has been such that i do at the moment.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Generally a happy year, even though like 6 people I know got cancer this year.

Draw Tipsy, ya hack. (dave225.3), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Every time I see this thread title I imagine Lou Reed singing it.

I think I've been weirdly emotionally flat for the past year or so. It hasn't even been in a bad way -- I just haven't had that much internal feeling, in the wonderful direction or the shit one, even when circumstances dictated that I really should have.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 1 September 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Crazy shit going down about shit not going down!
