what still no torrent showing up in i s o h u n t? but i want to watch this TONIGHT

i have kept clear of the spoilers from the US thread so far. i'm sure someone will now stomp in here with an appropriate JPG showing Locke mutating into a polar bear while being zapped by a bolt of electric from walt's MIND or something.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

tons of them on IH and on MN, too

I have had one running since early this morning but am only at 20%

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

typing "lost S2" just gets me a season of the pokemon cartoon. which is good. but not what i'm after :-(

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

the uk lost thread was going well but now this has happened. the internet gives [discussion with non-morans] and it taketh [simultaneity].

N_RQ, Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

thank you t o r r e n t s p y

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

just type "lost" and then sort by age or date added or whatever

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

how good is your torrent? I am at 23% not getting anything over 6kbps : (

tried a couple of others but they didn't seem much better

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Bah. I was relying on you till I got my home internet back.

I thought the point of bittorrent was that the more popular the file, the more reliable the download speed? Maybe you get a bottleneck at first and then it will all splooge? Some kind of systems theory matter maybe.

I had wine.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

this is rubbish

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

i won't be able to start leeching till i get home. and i have to visit topps tiles first

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I queued one from i s o h u n t this morning before I came to work, and in the 20 minutes before I left the fastest speed it reached was 4.1kb/s. The more typical seemed to be 512b/s or so. Despite this, and the lack of it I had downloaded, I was still uploading at over 13kb/s. Bizarre.

More galling was that this was from a swarm with about 60 seeders and 750 leeches, so should have been flying.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Pesky Walt has cursed the bittorrent network in some way.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 September 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

I get home, just under 40%, 8 hours remaining.

CURSE YOU GOD FOR MAKING ME THSI WAY!

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

55%

was getting 29kbps, at one point. just a moment ago, dropped from 13 to 1, in 10 seconds

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

40kbps

the good times are here again

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

not good. the first one i could find that had any immediate action is a torrentmind file, and it's peaking at 4k/s ! bah

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

http://www.mininova.org/sub/111

You guys! I had 100% at about 12.45 this afternoon! I've seen it. Twice. Ner ner.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

90k/s! 2 hrs left, woo using http://isohunt.com/download.php?mode=bt&id=5960445

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

that's where I got mine. many to choose from, though

71% & around 20kbps

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

i ♥ broadband. 180k/s 1hr left. i am so hyped.

(not really)

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

I envy you

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

my plan worked brilliantly

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I switched off the one I had (at 73%), to try to be like you and see what the other one had to offer

it had a beginning of 0%, to offer, of course, and not that great a speed, for me

switching back on my original one and wondering why I switched it off, at all, instead of just running them simultaneously, I have lost my 20kbps to a 3kbps

I should be less easily influenced

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I am down to 2 hours so I might as well stick with what I have.

I have lost my faith in BT at a device though.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

what the fuck guys, i got this in 3 hours last night.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

you guys are bad bittorrenters. do you have your ports forwarded?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

teach me, cutty

what does that mean?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

i am not allowed to watch this til tomorrow now :-(

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

rjg are you being a router?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

am I being a router? I don't think so

we have a router, yes

there are ports I should...forward?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

if you are being/having a router, you should be forwarded ports-ing 6881-6889 to you computers IP.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=bittorrent+forward+ports&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I feel like the pinefox : (

we have some internet coming in and through a routing box, to our computers

I need to open ports on the router itself? this will mean plugging it into my computer and fiddling, I suppose. I did kind of set it up, a little while ago, but it was mostly luck

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

you can log into the router through your web browser, boobie

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

I feel like Teh Lex.

I have checked, and all the ports associated with BT are "OK!" according to Azeureus. I don't know what I'm doing wrongly.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

I think I need to plug it in USB, no?

maybe no but I have, anyway

I found out that I don't know its password, though

I will have to wait, to talk to my exflatmate

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

OK, I found the manual

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

what do you think of this? called "virtual server configuration"

- Use the following form to add special port that you want to be opened for your special application

ID Public Port Private Port Port Type (TCP or UDP) Host IP Address

Settings need to be saved to Flash and the system needs to be rebooted for changes to take effect.

not to be a the lex but what do I put in each of these boxes etc?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

do not forsake me, cutty

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

never mind, I have tried something

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

yeah that seems to be right! i am here for you!

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

thanks!

I just put in 6881 for public and private and TCP and 10.0.0.2 for IP

and for the rest, up to 6889

saved it, reset it

result: I am, now, getting 0kbps

just my luck!

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

maybe you are using a shit torrent? what is your email?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

i REALLY want you to watch this episode. really.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

haha!

this email works, otherwise gmail RJG123

what are you going to send??

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

it's going, again. I will have it by tomorrow morning, at least

thanks for your help!

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

how frustrating

mine is too, too temperamental but 84% done

yours is going much better but still topping out at 14 and averaging around 10

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

do you have the upload speed capped on your end?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

I don't know, really

I am using bittornado. I have just told it I have a dial-up/isdn connection, now, and am getting:

mine--
d: 10, u: 2

yours--

d: 21, u: 3

download on mine has just fallen to 3, suddenly (don't usually experience such fluctuation)

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

this thread is almost as riveting as the show.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

perhaps these download and upload numbers have some significance

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

haaa

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 September 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

105kbps!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 23 September 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

got it!!!

with your torrent, thanks, cutty xx

now, I just have to watch it, so I can progress to the thread for people who have seen it, to say it was OK

I hope this gets easier, in the next 23 weeks

RJG (RJG), Friday, 23 September 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

xoxo

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 23 September 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

I am going to come round to your house, RJG and take a copy, if that is OK. I have forwarded all my ports.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 23 September 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

une thread incroyable

N_RQ, Friday, 23 September 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

and that was just for episode 1

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 23 September 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

spoilers!

N_RQ, Friday, 23 September 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

How have people got on with episode 3?

I set two versions going before I left for work today and they should both be done by the time I get back but all the stuff I'm reading on the torrent forums implies many problems with sound synching because apparently encoding HDTV well is not an easy task and the regular team called 'lol' don't seem to have done this week's yet for some reason.

Anyone got it OK?

I guess I'll not be able to stop myself watching even a crappy copy, to be honest.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

I have had no luck, so far

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

What, you haven't got it at all?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

like 20% on one and 4% on another

I am so crap at bittorrenting

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm... you might want to forward your ports.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

I might

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Course I might get home and find I haven't got it either, but the speed was OKish when I left for a six hour or so download.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I did all that port forwarding nonsense, already, and thought the bad days were behind me

what is to become of me?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Maybe you should start getting it FedExed from America instead.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

I might

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

I forgot to do it this morning and currently have one that threatens to be down when I get up tomorrow. I had to try about 5 different torrents to get one that actually started downloading though.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

This seems to be the one of choice according to piratebay people:

http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3392897

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

That's not the one I'm getting (the tracker mine is coming from is t3ns1ont0rr3nt.c0m) but I note from that forum post the TCM one seems to be the one that has issues.

As long as I can watch this, I'm happy to get the LOL one later in the week.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

I just fucked up my connection, trying to get a static IP or something

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

A static IP for yourself, rather than one issued by DHCP, is generally a good plan.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

(I mean, with PlusNet I think your real IP address is static anyway, but the one behind your router isn't. But I'm not sure all this matters with BitTorrent. I seem to remember it did with DirectConnect. I'm probably talking out of my arse here)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

yes

I wonder if I have one, now

crosspost

probably

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

i wish you the best of luck, rjg.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I got mine. The TCM was fucked, as expected, but the other one seems fine so far. I'm only 10 mins into it cause I was too drunk when I got in last night.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

I've got that one on p1r4t3b4y coming down as backup - had a quick look at the one I listed above and there's a mismatch at the points I chose.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

ihttp://royshort.com/images/Duke/SPOILERS.jpg

N_RQ, Friday, 7 October 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

got it !

RJG (RJG), Friday, 7 October 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

i just got stung with ep3 mis-labelled as ep4 :-(

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

We just made our first ever pinefoxian attempts to bitTorrent this last night. We appear to only have the sound, but no pictures. This may be due to our total stupidity rather than anything else (note: I sat in the other room and shouted email addresses at Neil, I wasn't actually party to any, you know, technical stuff).

I should really just get one of you Glasgow bods to let me watch yours.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 13 October 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

when I say "email addresses" I mean "URls". No wonder I let him do the technical stuff.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like you did the bittorenting bit right but your video player doesn't have the right codec (bit that decodes the file compression), ailsa. You often get sound and no picture in these cases.

Download the free VLC Player and it should work fine.
