Athens, GA: finding a cheap place to stay in advance without a credit card

I'm traveling to Athens, GA from out of state so I can see both Jonathan Richman and Gang of Four on the same night at the 40 Watt Club on Oct. 7. The wisdom or unwisdom of this is not the point. The point is that it seems to be impossible to line up lodging in advance without a credit card, and I'm nervous about just trying my luck at motels the night I arrive (I won't have a car either). Thoughts and/or advice please. Thanks.

On the same bill?

I guess if I'd read closer...

Wow.

No, it looks like a booking coincidence. Richman is doing an early show at 7 PM, Gang of Four are on at 10.

Of course "not having a credit card" = "being totally screwed" on this planet in 2005, but...

xero it's not a gameday so i imagine there will be rooms available. i'd be more worried about getting my tickets in advance.

Ah, thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear.

Already got my tickets. Pitch A Tent, who do online ticket sales for the 40 Watt, take Paypal. :D

Minnesota, for which you are welcome to read "too far for this to possibly be worthwhile."

Go to your bank and have them issue you a new debit/ATM card -- it seems like just about all of these can now run through as credit.

Good one. I currently bank at a semi-wack credit union with very limited services but will look into this at once.
