Too Sad.

A young eight year old boy was killed in Montreal, when a pallet fell on him when another child or two were climing up on them. The pallets overturned and one fell hitting the boy on the head. Why was there not a fence around this area? My heart goes out to the parents & family.

I think it's just people being asshats, dv.

I do like the cat one, though, I must admit.

Don't know the girl but...

!

(Explanation of surprised punctuation: she went to my school. She was in my year but I didn't particularly know her. Being massively out of touch with both films and former schoolmates, had no idea about her acting career, though she was doing pretty well as a model when we left school. This is a pretty content-free post but it's weird to click an unlabelled link and go "wait a minute...")

(Total breach of protocol here, wondering whether to feel phony typing "RIP" when I barely spoke to her at school, or asshattish for not doing so in such sad circumstances)

six years pass...

Just thinking about how bad things are getting recently. One of my sister's neighbourhood friends, who was a drug addict with serious mental health problems, a single parent with 3 young children. She died in an apparently self inflicted house fire, and 2 of the kids died and one is in critical condition last I heard. My sister partly trained as a therapist but had to drop off the course, she is always trying help broken people and was probably lending her money and stuff. She says she was an extremely delicate and likable person despite the drug problem and the behaviour that goes with addiction.

My initial response was bad and judgemental, like just OD - don't take the poor kids out with you. But obv it is much more complex than that and I'm bad and wrong.

I'd put it to the back of my mind because it is so sad and grim. Then I was listening to a football podcast and the guy mentioned walking down Leeds Rd he'd seen the girl who died in the fire with all her scuffed up toys on table a outside the house, set up like a market stall. And that just broke me.

That's beyond grim. So much pain in the world.

Sorry to hear, Calzino.

Can't help but think the world is doing something about all that pain.

I didn't know her and there are terrible stories like this every week, but when it is a bit closer to home and you've seen the sad location where it happened and a family member is talking first hand about the person, it becomes more than just a news story. It becomes a vivid tragedy replaying in your mind that is hard to block out.

there are lots of horrible things happening and it wouldn't be healthy to get too deeply sad over everything you read. I don't mean in a cold indifferent way, but there has to be some insulation/levels of removal when taking in horrific reports of how many people live and die or you might just end up topping yourself. But this one did bring some tears from me.
