It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time

This thread seemed like a good idea at the time. It's crying out to be derailed already.

Please, stories anyone? In case it was not clear that this was the purpose of this post, spill any tawdry tales about things gone wrong which seemed oh so good to begin with.

Seeing your friend's band on a boat.

They were great! But then there was another band. They were HORRIBLE! Drab cliched pop/punk surfie hardcore shit played by three Aussie jocks! And we could not escape because we were on a boat. There was no escape. As we pulled into land, a couple of my friends even tried to exit through the ferry window! They couldn't even wait for the gangplank to come down.

I feel like I've thrown myself on several Land Mines of Obvious lately, but okay, fine, I will be the first to say: the bulk of my romantic history. Specific indictment goes out to N3rv3 dot com.

I bought the debut Franz Ferdinand CD AT FULL PRICE. Oh how very deluded was I. What a disappointment.
I spend too much time talking to friends & on the internet when meant to be writing essays. Thereby forcing many a very late night of study.
I believed the weather forecast & wore a skirt & flip-flops & then it rained :( Never will I trust those shifty forecasters again. But then I did it several more times again. What a naive sucker.
Yes romantic history ditto.

Colouring my daughter's home made custard the colour green. It was a Dr Seuss idea. Green custard looks like the stuff we used to scrape off our boots after walking around our stagnant end of the Thames.

the sweet green custard flowing dowwwwwwn....

Amyl Nitrate always seemed like a good idea at the time. The skull-crushing headaches at the end of a night said different.

I prepare a poultice of special lamb's meat syrup for an ancient chinese arabian festival. It seemed a good idea at the tiume. But when I got there all was pantless and enraged and I realized the lamb is sacred in chinese arabia.

Who exactly was pantless?!! That extra gin & tonic always seems like a stupendous idea until the next morning.

salexander (salexander), Sunday, 2 October 2005 08:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Pantless is like bootless - only on a higher level.

moley, Sunday, 2 October 2005 08:46 (eighteen years ago) link

...and pantless generally seems like a good idea at the time.

Zora (Zora), Sunday, 2 October 2005 09:44 (eighteen years ago) link

That should be pantlessNESS ofc

Demonstrating for a friend the mighty impenetrability of my chunky-soled earth shoes by stomping on a rusty nail sticking out of a board behind the barn. (Squeechy sound of useless rubber giving way, odd cold prick of metal into flesh, yowls of 8-year-old surprise, achey residue of tetanus shot.)

Deciding to tell a joke & then forgetting the punchline & then making up a random punchline on the spot which totally didn't make sense & wasn't at all funny. But then it was kind of funny because it was so unfunny.

And telling your mom they were made by boys, and not mentioning there were girls involved too.

And never ever talking about your girlfriends to her, nor letting her in any other way know you're not gay.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Having a massive argument with the cabbie on the way home from Colette and Toby's. He accused me of lying (about how long he'd waited before we got to his car), so I accused him of lying, he got furious, threatened to throw us out of the car. Then I got furious and demanded he stop the car so we could get out. So we all got out and shouted a bit more, whereby I proved to him on my mobile that actually *I* was right, after which he backed down a bit and we apologised to each other, and called each other men of honour who would not lie.

So although we did get home okay - and he even said I should not have to pay the fare, though of course I did, honourably, with a hefty tip - in retrospect it wasn't a good idea at all as I could have been left with a frightened and justifiably angry girlfriend and a busted skull on the streets of Islington at 2.15am.

I would say that getting into any cab is often a big mistake. Some drivers are nice, a lot are the scowly narky types though. (And liars). Technology is great though - woe betide you had you not had trusty mobile onhand. What would they have done in the olden days? STop the cab & have a duel?
A friend actually got caught speeding 30k's over the limit recently right in front of a police car. But she did have a *legitimate* reason. It was late on a Saturday night at the traffic lights & a group of the male species was in the car nextdoor behaving like utter twats. So she *anticipated* the red-light & sped off to get rid of them. Fortunately the law enforcers saw this & let her off with 3 demerit points & a $110 fine. In most cases you would lose your licence. BUT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME & bore fruit.
