I'd like to hear your stories of having a yard sale. We're having a huge yard sale at our house to benefit the community radio station. We're going around with a big dump truck to pick up boxes of random stuff people are donating. Could be great. I hope.

Have plenty of small bills/change available to start with. Have a plan for getting rid of the leftovers - we did a "Fill a grocery bag for $2" for the last 4 hours of the final day and then donated everything that was left.

We made a decent amount of $ and got rid of lots of stuff (the main objective) - hope you do the same! Good luck!

take ads out in the popular weekly papers and craigslist if your city has em. be as descriptive of the range of goods you have for sale as space allows. if you've got lots of stuff, a photo (on craigslist) is helpful. also, flyers in coffee shops, grocery stores are a must, as well as signs on all corners leading to your sale.

if you've got music, highlight that in your ads. never underestimate the record buying freaks and their girlfriends (if they're lucky enough to have one).

So far we have to go pick up stuff at 8 houses. Maybe I should limit the donations. I hope the weather will cooperate. I guess if there's any valuable stuff we don't sell, we'll sell it on ebay.
