Breaking Bonaduce

I caught a few episodes of this while on holiday in the US recently. Anyone else seen it? I can only hope it comes to the UK soon - I was hooked. Really compelling, in an awful car-crash kind of way, reality TV show of a marriage horribly breaking down...

I like this show a lot. For people who have no idea how mental illness/drugs can affect a person, tune in. It's heartwrenching.

What network?

Was showing on VH1 when I saw it...

We are addicted to this show. I see a LOT of my family's own history playing out across Danny Bonaduce's freckled, conflicted face.

Still not sure why the therapist wears so much blush and eyeliner. He should be more confident in his own inner beauty.

this looks tragic.

TRUE STORY

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Did she ever get frustrated with his wacky get-rich-quick schemes and snarl, "He's not a kid, he's a midget in a kid's suit!"?

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Did she nod head, tap toes and snap fingers when he beat out a catchy rhythm on his cereal bowl with his spoon?

i think she probably mostly smoked pot and listened to records while the infant bonaduce slept

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Ruben Kincaid was the first person I ever saw, real or fictional, with one of those airplane sleep eyemasks on, said eyemasks which no doubt increased the severity of young Danny's transgression in waking him up for no good reason.

Perhaps it was the inhalation of her stream smoke that started him up the garden path, Jess.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

that's certainly what happened to me

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

mom, to strongo, aged 16: "you know, pot's not a drug."

Now I am imagining a show called "Surviving Kincaid," but I fear that Dave Madden is no longer with us.

the only thing that would make this show worthwhile is if it concludes with Il 'Duce getting killed in an actual car crash. what a loathsome, self-obsessed moron.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

It's definitely really bizarre. The weird meta-episode where his fiancee was having a bachelor party and he started wigging out and demanding the director of the show call the hotel and put a stop to any strippers going to her suite was so uncomfortable. At first you think he's playing it up for the cameras, but then he's sort of sobbing on the curb and punching walls and shit.

Stuck to a Seat in the New Beverly (Bent Over at the Arclight), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

except that in one of the previous episodes he'd gone to Vegas to party with some strippers against his wife's wishes. Really, what the fuck - the guy is an asshole.

I know just enough tragic motherfuckers like this guy to find it brilliant. (And yes, even one is enough.)

But his wife's equally batshit-insane capacity for denial creeps me the fuck out.

He looks enough like my brother, and has enough of the same problems as my brother, that I will have to miss this show.

four months pass...
Revive! This is coming to the UK on March 19 on VH1. Sadly I only have VH1 Classic so I won't be able to catch it - but I highly recommend it.
