What have you been eating lately?

In searching my previous few posts here, I was startled to realize that a good deal of them for no apparent reason have to do with food. I can't tell if that just means I'm consistantly hungry or what. But, regardless, I'm not too concerned. Food is good, after all.

Either way, what has everyone found themselves eating these days? Is there one dish that you just can't stay away from or do you mix it up?

For me, I've finally procured a bottle of HP brown sauce here in Philadelphia which I've been searching for on and off and have at long last tasted the astronomical delight that is the brown sauce and bacon sandwich. It's honestly all I crave these days. Sure, I go out and see other restaurants that could easily satiate my hunger. But, I swear, I could eat a table full of those sandwiches right now.

So what's been on everyone's plate these days? Same old crap or have you accidentally wandered into the promised land of new delightful foodstuffs? Make me curious about your new exotic dishes.

I have been craving and eating a lot of Indian and South Asian food lately. Stir fried vegetables with basil and red curry sauce is the best. Not new but delish anyway (not to mention good for you).

I just had some good Chicken Tikka Masala.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

All I want to eat is curry!

I've also been eating lots of bananas, but that's for and unrelated personal experiment to see if they really do cause constipation, and what constipation really feels like.

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

calamari has recently experienced a resurge in popularity in my diet

gem (trisk), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

Otherwise I've been eating a lot of sandwiches from the italian bakery deli ($3.50 for an awesome portabello sub or chicken parm!)

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

speaking of chicken parm, i've recently become obsessed as well with subway's new chicken parm sandwich. and this is coming from a person who genuienly hates subway. but that sandwich on their "italian herb and cheese" roll is out of control. damn. (there's a subway literally two doors down from me and i'm now seriously considering going there).

Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (Plastic Gas Booby Trap), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Not food, but I've been eating the fuck out of the warm spiced caramels from Target's new chocolate line.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to eat a shitload more veges. On the menu tonight is fresh Asparagus and probably some potatoes and carrots.

I'm embarassed to admit this, but, prunes. I really, really like prunes.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Me too! They never gives me the runs either, no matter how many I eat.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

xpost You know what they say about prunes ...

saleXander / sophie (salexander), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

I like 'em when they get sorta dried out and chewy.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

In fact, I've always liked prunes - ever since I was a little kid. I remember visiting my grandpa at the nursing home and being really excited to see "prune juice" for the first time in the cafeteria. My dad was little embarassed that I wanted it.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

I prefer dried apricots. Tart and chewy.

saleXander / sophie (salexander), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, those are good too.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 21 October 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

Cajun. I summoned Paul Prudhomme's shrimp etoufee' recipe the other day and it was fly.

And red beans and rice. In honor of New Orleans and what wasn't fucked up about it.

Christ that Amy's stuff is awful.

Me: rice n beans, paella, sandwiches with preserved fruit, shredded chicken, cucumber.

paulhw (paulhw), Sunday, 23 October 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

I thought that said Amy's Bowels.

My bagel & cream cheese for breakfast routine, which could easily go on until I die, should be ending soon when I start baking up some cornbread.

Christ that Amy's stuff is awful.

I gotta agree -- it may be healthy but it's ALWAYS tasted terrible.

i've had vegan food at DOJO'S that was better.

katrina vanden roffle (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 23 October 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

I made biscuits this morning, those turned out really well. Mostly, my fiancee and I have been making homemade pizzas with an alarming frequency.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 23 October 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

just finished roasted chicken & sweet potatoes with Brussells sprouts sauteed with onions & mushrooms.

xpost Amy's is quite the yuck. I don't understand how they take what are supposedly high quality, organic ingredients and manage to make them taste so cardboard-like.

Anyway, I ate some Baja Fresh tonight, which I have to say is really good as far as fast food goes. It's definitely the best chain Mexican I've ever had.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 23 October 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

I've been on my own and on vacation this week, so I've been sort of eating my way around town. Had some good Korean (bibimbop cooked in a stone bowl, mmm), assorted burritos, Japanese (avocado roll plus seaweed salad and veggie tempura), some nice Turkish side dishes (patlican, mucver), yummy tapas (pumpkin-and-blue-cheese croquettes!). For dinner tonight I had Thai, vegetables and tofu in a spicy mango curry. It's been a good week.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 23 October 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

for lunch: lots of bresaola & peccorine sandwiches from bottino, and smothered chicken plates w/ candied yams and mac & cheese from soul fixins, or mapo tofu from sichuan international.

katrina vanden roffle (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 23 October 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

split pea soup

and, today i had tofu and vegetables in a red curry coconut basil sauce that was so amazing, i think i could eat it for at least a week straight.

Jimmy Mod wants you to tighten the strings on your corset (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Sunday, 23 October 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

For a combination breakfast/lunch today, I had three breakfast tacos on homemade corn tortillas -- one chorizo con papas with beans, one bacon & egg, and one potato & egg. I've gotten to the point where I prefer homemade corn tortillas to homemade flour tortillas. Then I did a whole bunch of running around, doing errands and the like. After Mass tonight, I had a BBQ chicken sandwich and half an order of fries (the other half I took home to my little puppydog to eat). I added a lot of onions and pickles to the chicken sandwich, which made it taste extra yummy. I'm still full, but if I weren't, I'd sure as heck bake up a couple of those new premade sugar free chocolate chip cookies that the Pillsbury people are now making. That stuff is SO DAMN GOOD. And that's my Day Of Eating.

This Field Left Blank (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 23 October 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

omg dark chocolate chrystallised ginger is f*cking amazing. it gets to the point where you try to convince yourself that ginger is actually good for you and combats colds, while dark chocolate is also healthier than milk chocolate because of low fat content. then you realise how sad it is to continue lying to yourself but continue munching anyway.

saleXander / sophie (salexander), Sunday, 23 October 2005 06:33 (twenty years ago)

Dee, I've read that dogs can't digest potatoes properly, and will get bad sick if you feed them fries.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 October 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

i lost lots of weight in the spring, like around two inches around my waist, so have spent much of this year swinging between eating healthier than i ever have done, and eating the BAD STUFF safe in the knowledge that my diet is a lot more balanced than it ever was.

lately: lots of red meat; homemade burgers (from organic steak mince) and also bacon, if i fancy it. lots of homemade curries, with white meat. very little takeaway - burger king et al actually make me feel very sick if i eat them now, though i swear by my sausage and bacon bagel from the kiosk at waterloo every monday morning. i think i shall make a chicken en croute thing tonight - mmmm. and i have also perfected a pizza sauce of types, recently, involving lots of garlic and fresh basil and organic tomatoes - mmm.

am very obsessed with these at the moment too, and discovered last night that they're a great getting-stoned-and-watching-chappelle snack: http://www.kelloggs.co.uk/products/pack_shots/rk_multi_pack.gif

foxy boxer (stevie), Sunday, 23 October 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Dee, I've read that dogs can't digest potatoes properly, and will get bad sick if you feed them fries.

Either my dog disproves that theory or is an exception to it. I've regularly fed her fries as a treat from the time she was old enough to eat human food and, in fact, when I've been gone all day from the house and have had dinner out, I'll usually bring back an order of fries (usu from Wendy's) for her to eat with some of her regular food. And she's never gotten ill.

Actually, I thought the only foods you were supposed to never give dogs were chocolate, nuts, and anything that was made with either ot both of them. I've never allowed those foods into my dog's diet, but every other bit of human food is something I'd give her.

This Field Left Blank (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 23 October 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

1 pistachios w dried pineapple

2 vietnamese sandwiches

ai lien (kold_krush), Sunday, 23 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Bread bread, rosemary bread, challah, coffeecake. I'm in bake mode these days.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 23 October 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Fast food and junk food, mainly. But I did make bindi bhaji (okra curry) the other day and it was really good. And I just made a seafood pasta salad that is going to be lunch in a few minutes.

Nobody in the house likes anybody else's cooking, which is turning into a real drag. But as the weather gets cooler, we'll start the neverending pot of soup, which is a bit of a meeting point, esp. if I make cornbread to go with it.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 October 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

i've been overdoing the comfort foods, but i just bought some healthier groceries for next week's dinners: chicken sausage, whole wheat pasta, carrot ginger soup, salad greens.

katrina vanden roffle (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 23 October 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

whoa whoa whoa. wtf is up with the hate for amy's? i've always found their frozen veggies actually taste like veggies. the shrooms especially. and the onions! plus, the salt content is like 1/3 of most frozen meals.

my name is john. i reside in chicago. (frankE), Sunday, 23 October 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

millet bread, lettuce, apples, swiss, cheddar, mayo, and french dressing; this is a sandwich i like.

Peter Densmore (pbnmyj), Sunday, 23 October 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

I had caldo de res today. And a couple of those sugar-free chocolate chip cookies. Ta-da.

This Field Left Blank (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 24 October 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

suddenly craving more dairy so have been loading up on yogurt and cottage cheese and sour cream. But mostly yogurt--I had plain this morning with just a bit of honey and it was so good, I think I'm going to stop buying flavored yogurt because it's all too sweet.

There is also a potato in my future, a potato loaded with lots of butter and salt and pepper and sour cream.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 24 October 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm addicted to yoghurt. Now I eat it with muesli and maple syrup. YUM. Also, lots of fruit flavored soymilks.

I also like dried figs 'n' dates as inbetweens.

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Monday, 24 October 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

There's a new hummus bar on Wardour Street, and after a shaky start I have really taken to it. Also, cabbage.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 24 October 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

Seattle Deli - Chicken or Pork Banh Mi, $1.75 per sandwich, and bubble tea (although their bubble tea is more like a milkshake). Yum.
