Help me fix my computer

I accidentally deleted something earlier (a "mixer"?) that allows my computer to play sound and music. I went through the Windows Support Help process--self-automated--and was able to deduce through xmillion amount of error screens that Windows can't locate my sound mixers and they need to be reinstalled. I don't have the Windows utilities disc anywhere--is anyone familiar with this type of this problem? Is there somewhere I can go to download a patch? I have Windows XP and a Dell, BTW.

Most computers with Windows XP have a copy of the Windows installation files on the hard disk, so if you need to reinstall anything you can use that instead of the installation disc. I think it's usually in the C:\I386 folder.

This actually may be as simple as going to the Dell site, locating your model under the support links, and downloading/reinstalling the audio driver. The "mixer" is often part of that driver.
