I'm thinking Friday. I'm thinking the Lord John Russell, maybe. Mostly because it feels like ages since we all just sat down and had a beer and a chat.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

you're not wrong. might want to put date in the title though innit ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Anyone fancy one sooner? I'l have probably flitted away agin by friday.

Ed (dali), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

Where is this Lord John Russell? Have we been there before?

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Flitted away a gin? Or again? Or both?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Mmmmm, gin.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh no... that's in the EEZOHAD. :-(

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 24 October 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

OH IS THIS THE PUB WITH THE REALLY CUTE BARMAID??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

BUDVAR DARK!

Ken, if memory serves me: YES

robster (robster), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

sweet as!

although actually i might not be able to make this lol.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

Boo. I can't come to this as I'll be getting ready for Bloodbath.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

for what now?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

What doors?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

how far is this place from shoreditch? i hope i can catch at least one pint with barmaid.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Great idea.

Hope its warm outside tho, notoriously difficult to get a table early on in the LJR, let alone for 20 people!

This pub is HAUNTED by the way.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

that depends how early you are tom ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

LJR not really achievable for me in my current state of hobbledness. Bah.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Is it broken, Tim?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 24 October 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Dunno. It's in plaster and it hurts, so whether or not it's actually bust seems academic.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 24 October 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

We will carry you!

There.

But not back.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 24 October 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

I have a bath chari at work which might help.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 October 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I might come, but as Tom pointed out it's terrible hard work to get anywhere to sit and standing in pubs really depresses me.

Chief Egg (alix), Monday, 24 October 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

It is called "vertical drinking", Chief Egg.

I think it would be nice, one day, to go somewhere quiet.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

> I think it would be nice, one day, to go somewhere quiet.

unfortunately, when there are 20 people involved, this plan is doomed to failure.

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

I'd never noticed the LJR being particularly busy on a Friday. I have no particular attachment to it so if it's going to be that rammed I'm quite happy to move somewhere else.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Andrew, you are right. Nevertheless, I think it would be nice.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

I wuv the LJR and find that after an hour or so the general movement of the place tends to thow up the long (haunted) table and a few offshoots. Not to mention THE GREY BEER.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

and also, if it's busy that would mean we have to stand near the BAR and have no choice but to chat with the barmaid.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

btw i'll only be able to make it really early doors. like 5pm.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah it does clear up quite quickly. I should be less of a moaning minnie.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

I was probably going to be in the Lord John Russell on Friday anyway, but not with you lot

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

So I can kill two birds with one Stone(s bitter)!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

You could kill just about anything with Stone's, it mings.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Stones Gringer Wine on the other hand is manna from heaven (must get a bottle)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Mix with scotch

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

must. resist. dirty. thoughts. involving. one. bird. two. stones.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

908, Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

OK

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

i might be able to do friday. but tomorrow night i am more in favour of this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/smalltownflirt/runwiththenight.jpg

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

i might be in favour of that

[email protected], Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

So would anyone turn up to the swimmer tomorrow?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

not me

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Friday may be doable.

BARMS, Tuesday, 25 October 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Dadaismus, does this mean that we should pretend we don't know you?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Why change the habits of a lifetime Martin!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

I may attend if this is on Friday. You lucky people.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

I want to try dark Budvar. I probably already have in Prague but I can't remember...

I'm going to be in some bar on Wardour St on Friday though so no FAP for me.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Well then I may attend as well. 'Twould be nice to meet The Dom.
(xp)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Marianna has told me about Bloodbath and it sounds NONE MORE GOTH. But also quite fun - I might go, post-pub.

I suspect the cute barmaid will be psychologically scarred after the last time we visited. I know I would be.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

Tell us about Bloodbath then.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

I might not be here after all, it's out of my hands!

BarabadabaDadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Bloodbath involves

1. People dressed as famous murder victims
2. Mu playing
3. REAL BLOOD SPURTING EVERYWHERE. (Okay, red paint, but still)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

where is this bloodbath?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

bah. i've got to be minder to musicians on friday. i hope there's a fap that i can actually attend sometime in the near future.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I'll try and turn up -- would be nice to meet some of you finally.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Bump.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

Probably won't be coming down seeing as how I can't drink. :-(

Atheist of Love (kate), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

i might not be able to make it for any kind of doors now. (may have to go to work drinks)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

but barmaid.........

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

I have been looking forward to this all week.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

this pub looks difficult to find.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

it is. it's on a street in london

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

(i totally couldn't find it the last time actually)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

it's on a TINY SIDE STREET.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

it's one of london's bigger side streets.

come out of russell square station and just walk all the way up that road where the brunswick estate/centre is and it's on your left eventually.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm vaguely entertaining the idea of showing up early doors for this.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

The Lex if you go from Kings Cross it's a bit of a maze. If you go from Russell Square it's incredibly easy, a Bigtrak could do it, you just go straight ahead out the tube up Marchmont Street and it's on your left after about 5 mins.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 28 October 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Apparently this place is only about fifteen minutes walk from where I'm working at the moment, although my knowledge of London is so little this probably means more like 40.

Could anyone proffer directions from Cleveland Street to this place?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm vaguely entertaining the idea of showing up early doors for this.

Entertain it less vaguely then. I shall be there from about 5.45, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

i have just looked on streetmap and the pub is literally down the road from a friend's flat. i will have no problems after all!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

Which bit of Cleveland Street are you working at, Dom? Probably the most direct way by foot is to start at the Telecom Tower, walk down Howland Street 'til you get to Tottenham Court Road, cross over, turn right and walk down a little, then turn left into Torrington Place. Keep a straight line through Byng Place, Gordon Square and Tavistock Place for about ten minutes and eventually you'll bump into Marchmont Street/the pub.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Tom, I am never employing you as a maze designer. From King's Cross you turn right out of the station, so that you are going Westwards on the Euston Road, then turn left down Mabledon Place and keep going until you see the pub on your right.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Which bit of Cleveland Street are you working at, Dom?

Dennis Publishing, directly opposite the hopsital. I think I understand those directions...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

when you get through tavistock place onto marchmont st, TURN LEFT, not right, or you'll never find the pub.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

if i'm there i'll probably be earlier doors than all of you and may in fact be gone (with barmaid in arm) by the time any of you get there

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

I am aiming for 5:15. COs I work close and I am almost on holidays.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

excellent. in that case your doors will probably be earlier than mine!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

I'll probably get there around 6 which seems to count as late doors in these parts.

robster (robster), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

I will be there as soon as I have counted our elections and bought the man supervising us a pint. I might try and get him to have that pint in the LJR.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

I'd guess my arrival on the "scene" as it were would be circa 6:20/6:30.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

I might be good and try and drink as little as possible though. I want to be fully alert for the North London derby tomorrow.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 October 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

I am very keen to come, but I am at home having had a horrible cold/flu thing for the last few days, and although I feel somewhat better, I haven't yet assessed how much.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 28 October 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

I am sorry to hear about Tim H's injury! I had no idea it was so bad.

the pinefox, Friday, 28 October 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I have hurt my finger. That's bad too, but different.

the pinefox, Friday, 28 October 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I had a similarly horrible cold/flu thing over the weekend but thankfully my incurable Lemsip/Benylin addiction put paid to that, so I shall wend my way there later on.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

I shant be out, I have to make a robot costume for tomorrow.

Dark Cilla (alix), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, beer.
