The new DST will start the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday in November. Right now it runs from the beginning of April to the end of October.
― Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Monday, 24 October 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)
interesting. as of now, the UK goes to BST a week before the US goes to DST, but they both go back on the same weekend. i guess with the change, they'll both start on the same day and the US will go back a week later.
i'm always the one out of my friends that has this in my diary, and who reminds everyone, and then manages to forget to change my clocks myself, and screw up meeting people on the sunday. sigh.
― colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)
So... Europe changes tonight, but the US next week, eh? Ridiculous.
― StanM, Saturday, 27 October 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)
I agree. Does Britain change too? (I know they're a part of Europe, but you know.)
― Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 27 October 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
Yes.

We are in parallel dimension freaky-time. Do not adjust your set.

My sister lives in AZ and tho its either zero, one, or two hours earlier than here (not sure bcz its the only state w/no daylight savings) I never have any ida if it is too early or late to call her. Fortunately she calls me and then regales me forever with really long, nearly interestingish stories about waxing/makeup school, the seafood sold at her new employer, and people I have never met. Then I don't feel so bad about being unable to figure out when it is in Arizona.
― Abbott, Sunday, 28 October 2007 01:57 (eighteen years ago)
Hawaii's got no DST either.
― Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 28 October 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)
Just to be clear on this, in the UK clocks went back one hour last night. We are now on GMT.
― snoball, Sunday, 28 October 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)
We are now on GMT and it's almost dark at 5pm, uuuuuuuuuurgh time to hibernate
― Matt #2, Sunday, 28 October 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)
Hibernate OR break out the booze.
― snoball, Sunday, 28 October 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)
Here comes six months of never seeing the sun
― stet, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:04 (eighteen years ago)
I found this out after literally running from an awesome archaeological site where I really wanted to spend more time to the bus station, since I thought I was in danger of missing the last bus, but actually I could've taken another hour to wander around. And I only found out after a very confused English-Turkish conversation ("What time is it now?" "The bus leaves in 5 minutes." "But what hour is it?" "It gets there at 7. 2 hour ride." "See my watch? Is it right?" "Yes, yes!" Only it turned out the person I asked hadn't changed his yet, and had to go confer with someone else in Turkish.)
And I agree, darkness before 6 PM is so depressing for so many reasons. (xpost)

― Just got offed, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)
Ferchrissake think of the people who need to work their dogs after a long day and don't want to have to do it right after they get home at 5:30 because it's dark after then!
― Abbott, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)
also the people who need to walk their dogs, like me!
this is so fucking true, even though i don't have a job cough work from home.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 28 October 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)
or even just want to take a little walk and spend a few minutes outdoors after work, but don't feel safe doing so in their neighborhood after dark. grr.
― Maria, Sunday, 28 October 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)
But then the sun wouldn't rise until after eight!
― Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 28 October 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)
Yah my neighbs has too many perving-on vatos, even with the pup it's a little grating in the dark and not always unscary.
― Abbott, Sunday, 28 October 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)
i'm loving it. i now get to work on time and also the sun shines in from my window in the morning at a nice angle that i don't normally get to see before work.

we went forward an hour this weekend just gone in a the second of a three year trial of daylight saving. I FUCKING hate it. It doesn't suit our climate one bit. Stupid pandering to the eastern states, where there is a completely different climate.
― gem, Monday, 29 October 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)
my DVD clock has jumped the gun.
Get up earlier, whiners.

I've got one of those fancy alarm clocks that pick up the time from the Greenwich signal. So fancy is my alarm clock that there's no option to change the time manually. However, the signal is not very strong, meaning that it still hasn't corrected the time, so I'm still an hour early. Since I wake up to R4, and the Today show sounds exactly the same at every hour, I usually don't realise that I'm an hour early until quarter to 7/8 when thought for the day doesn't appear.
