I don't think sarcasm should be a bookable offence in football.

I do, coz it's funny when players get in trouble for it. They just need to be more clever and not get caught.

and in football video games, you should have the option to applaud the ref, kick the ball into the crowd, spit, deliberate handball and etc. Press X to spit.

do you think you'd get booked if you kissed the referee in the mouth? if you do get booked for that, do you think the ref will then be accused of being homophobic?

I seem to remember a viz spoof on 'You are the ref' a few years ago, which went something like: Half way through the second half you notice that the number 9 of the defending team his has hand down your shorts. Do you a) book him for ungentlemenly conduct b) send him off for an early bath or c) send him off for an early bath and join him there?

As for square-passing penalty kicks, that's a different matter.

Getting the ball in the goal, but Anderlecht hasn't figured that one out yet.

if Beckham had applauded the ref sarcastically as Rooney had he should've been booked but as it was somewhat different in context i guess rescinding the card makes some sense.

Waving an imaginary card at the ref as a prompt for him to book another player should be punishable by garrotting

BarabadabaDadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

fuck yes

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

seriously that really does get my goat. and i still can't believe how much some of the older more experience players STILL crowd the ref after a decision. like they're going to change his mind.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

The refs really should learn to stop walking backwards when the players march towards them protesting. They're not supposed to let the intimidation even dictate their body language.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

Referees need to toughen up!

BarabadabaDadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

robot refs!

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

The way it used to be:

"When I tell you tae get aff the pitch son, ye'd better get aff... now get tae fuck before I break yer other leg"

BarabadabaDadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

All referees should be required to be at least six inches taller than the players

BarabadabaDadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

any man taller than Peter Crouch is hardly going to eschew a career as a circus freak in favour of being a ref.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

I don't like all this appealing against cards after the match has finished. It makes a mockery of the whole thing.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

It's the plethora of incorrect decisions made every weekend that is the mockery, Maniche.
