As proved by a trawl of London-centred blogs, several of which archly obsess over the fine details of life in the capital - pigeons, rickshaws, Routemaster buses, the man who stands near Oxford Circus imploring commuters to be a "winner not a sinner" - board guys have long been an object of backhanded fascination.

there are one or two in hammersmith, mainly for Subway. i noticed the other day that one of them had been given a board with a bendy pole which forced him to actively stand there and hold it whereas the other one just leant his against some railings and got on with listening to his walkman.

also saw the same bloke have real trouble finding somewhere to leave it whilst he popped into safeways to buy lunch - manager wouldn't let him take it with him around the aisles or leave it anywhere.
