I thought no smell = your perceptual system not bothering to tell you about something that's remained constant for a long period of time? Like the way you're not sensitive to the way your apartment/home habitually stinks vs. the strange smells (cooking smells, cleaning supplies, etc.) you detect when you visit the homes of others? That might explain why no one ever seems to comment on how amazingly bad Las Vegas casinos smell, actually.
