Would anyone care to anticipate the north London derby?

Spurs v Arsenal, tomorrow, 1pm. Oddly enough, it doesn't appear to be on Sky.

I'm hoping for another 5-4, like last year, but with Spurs to win for a change. Actually, I really think Spurs could do it this time - they're looking good, and Henry is out again. I'll go for 2-0 to Tottenham, with someone getting sent off for Arsenal.

Dammit, here I was thinking this was a thread about horses and I've been suckered into reading another bloody football thread.

Could you please be more specific in your thread titles, please? Thanks.

I thought it might be about drinking - see how our respective minds work?

Horses??? I'll make sure I mark all future threads with (NAH), ie Not About Horses.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

haha is henry out again???

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Well, derbies (i.e. a type of race, generally for horses) do tend to involve horses!

Atheist of Love (kate), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Unless you're talking about hats, that is. But I would have thought it would have taken more than one hat to clothe all of North London.

I thought Teh Hobb was referring to a part of north London that trend-spotting pundits are calling the new Derby!

Hats???

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Bah, I'm not fast enough with the old picture insertion!

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

... so you're saying no drinking will take place?!??!!?

Henry out or otherwise, this is a bad time to be playing Arsenal. The amount of bad press and dodgy results they've been getting they're bound to come back with a vengeance and spank someone sooner or later. Ljungberg and Reyes back as well. Hmmm.

As for Spurs - Davids is suspended and he visibly lifts the whole team. Much as I like Andy Reid I can't see him having the same effect. However, we always raise our game against Arsenal, we'll be buoyed by the Man Utd result, Carrick and Jenas are starting to look very good through the middle, and surely this is the game to really see what Aaron Lennon's made of? I'm going for 1-1.

Why isn't this on Sky? I know fellow Champions League contenders Wigan are playing as well but still...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 October 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

don't say that matt - i just bought a spurs defender upon hearing the news re: Henry

Ha, I will have to make sure that my shopping expedition tomorrow is suitably timed, as I very much want not to be caught in any of the crowds - I suspect police will be redirecting people as well, and I don't want to have to persuade them that I am a local and not a hooligan (as if the two are mutually exclusive).

Saw it in a pub (on some kind of Arabic channel, but with the commentary in English). Spurs were all over Arsenal in the first half, and should have been two or three up by half-time, but it always looked like Arsenal were going to come back in the second half.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 29 October 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

when we were only one up at half time I feared the second half, a draw came as a perverse relief but we really should have won that

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 29 October 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

1-1 seems acceptable.

Martin Jol is great, I can totally picture him giving a badly performing player a good old clip round the earhole.

five months pass...
This thread still isn't about horses. I predict a 1-1 draw.

me too

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 21 April 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Frankly, I would be happy with that.

Also, for the first time in at least ten years, the North London derby actually means something beyond pride. For the first time I can remember, Arsenal fans won't be able to say "well, its always a bigger game for them than it is for us".

I predict the least pleasant football-watching experience of my life.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:03 (twenty years ago)

im going to watch this on the big screen in MY HOUSE tomorrow :D

ken c (ken c), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

I am going to make sure I am not at home, then find out the score later on ceefax and discover the horrible truth. I fear.

Is Mido playing? I heard he'd thrown a wobbly.
