Postcards from the Edge (An ILX project!)

So, I mentioned this idea in passing on some other thread.

What I thought would be fun, is if we swapped addresses to send each other tacky postcards from our local hood.

I think it'd be fantastic - its cheap and easy, and tacky city/town postcards are easy to come by.

I want a collection from my ILX peeps!

Who's in? Email me (trayce at gmail) if you wanna give me your address! I'm up for it.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 October 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Guys! Wake up ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 October 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

Email sent!

(although I wasn't sure if I was actually supposed to give you my address yet...)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

Sent mine too. I'll find the tackiest postcard I can for you.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Won't it stick to everything else in the post?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

I'd do it.
But i really don't think there will be any postcards for my home town seeing as the only thing we're famous for is kerry katonas tits.

i could make a postcard myself perhaps, i could choose which landmarks to include then. Actually that would be fun.

i'll send an email tonight (can't use webmail at work)

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll reply to anyone who emails me with my addy. People should, I guess, email each other too? I'm not sure how we can disseminate this.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

(Warning: if I cant discern that you're a legit ILXor I may very well ignore your request, for obvious reasons!)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Maybe set up a mailing list?

I'd volenteer to do it but I have no idea how to go about setting one up.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

It's possible.

I shall research Ormskirk postcards later today. There may be some, who knows?

Matt (Matt), Monday, 31 October 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

considering i have received postcards from urmston and stretford (not to mention newcastle-under-lyme), i am sure its likely

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 31 October 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Bah, I just spent twenty minutes wandering round the town centre, and couldn't find *anywhere* selling postcards. I'm sure there'll be plenty along the seafront, though.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 31 October 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

And I bet they'll be lovely :)

Matt (Matt), Monday, 31 October 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I've just been down to the seafront and found a traditional tacky souvenir shop with a selection of local postcards! Woo!

Anyone apart from Trayce who wants a postcard from me, email!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

Same here! Postcards from the historic Hanford area on the mighty Columbia.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Thanks to all of you guys who sent me your addresses :D

I have a bunch of silly Melbourne postcards covered in trams and Luna Park and whatnot to write up and send off today.

Anyone else want to send me stuff/me send them stuff? Where my Canadian peeps at?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

I popped a couple of cards in the post yesterday :-)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Me too Trayce!

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Yay, snailmail!

I'll post mine this afternoon with any luck - I just have to work out what stamp covers postcard postage to the US or UK, I think its $1 tho.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Luna - did you already have my postal addy? (I forget who I gave it to last time when I did the xmas cards, apart from Tep).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Nope - I'll email you. Anyone else, etc...

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Ah ok cool :)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I still have plenty of unwritten postcards, so email me if you want one.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 3 November 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

I want to do this! I found some postcards that are not quite quaint and tasteful.

email me at spittake at gmail dot com.

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Trayce, for to please be emailing me your address.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Ooh shit sorry luna my dear. trayce at the gmail is the best one.

Man I gotta go buy more postcards. I already wrecked one by writing like a tard because I've forgotten how to use a pen, heh.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Trayce, I had a blast constructing a postcard for you. It went in the mail yesterday.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

You MADE a postcard? Haha cool!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

I've just thought - if when I get postcards I'm particularly impressed by the picture, I'll scan the image and post them here!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

Hey nice idea.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

OK wtf, postage for a postcard is $1.10. Thats annoying, I bet they dont make a stamp of that currency so I have to get 2 lots! Gah stupid post.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

Grimsby postcard!!!! Whoohoo! With a quite upright and brickish dock tower artfully framed! FP, you are so prompt, and I am such a slacker.

I'm torn between sending the historic black and white photo cards or the colorful new dept. of tourist cards. I took off early to get to the local museum's gift shop before closing - these will go in the post tomorrow.

Anyone else wants a view of the most polluted Superfund cleanup site in the US, drop me an email.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 10 November 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna go hit up tha AusPost at lunch for my stamps. So some of you should soon get cards! I still need to finish writing them all.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 10 November 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

I got my postcard from Rock Hardy! Aw man! What a cool postcard Rock! Now I'm wishing I'd made my own as well. I love it, thanks man!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 14 November 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I'm glad you like it! I still have the Photoshop file of the color side — I'm tempted to post it here because I'm prideful and vain and stuff. I wish I'd drawn more flowers under the Lollipop Guild on the other side...

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Monday, 14 November 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

It was such a great idea! I am seriously revising a few things I'll send to people (tho Im also sending tacky cards. Today! Finally! I have the stamps now).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 14 November 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

I got Jaq's card today (thanks!) and now I feel guilty because I haven't sent hers yet. I went to the Amory museum today to see if there's any such thing as Amory postcards, but they're closed Monday.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Monday, 14 November 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

My postcard from Trayce arrived yesterday morning! Hurrah!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 20 November 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

Hurray! I thot it would get all mooshed up cos it was so thin!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 November 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

It was slightly bowed, but not mooshed.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 20 November 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

I got cards from William yesterday! Views of Amory grace my fridge!

I wonder how long it will take my cards to get to you people in ferrin places? They were mailed on Nov. 10 - not more than 2 weeks, I'd hope.

Jaq (Jaq), Sunday, 20 November 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Oh! I got yours Jaq I forgot to tell you! :D

And I got Tokyo's as well :D I still have a few to send out i think whoops, must get onto that.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 November 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

Hey I saw something abt the Linden postcard thing the other day. I'm no artist tho, but it would be kind of fun to try.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 06:08 (twenty years ago)

I got a postcard from Jaq on Monday! Woo!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

Incoming postcard from Trayce! "Insane architecture" is right, wow...

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Friday, 25 November 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah that new square is crazy. One bit of it looks like a Meccano accident in a giant fishtank. I should find some more pics of that building.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 25 November 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

What is that building, anyway? I should scan it and put it on the 10+ Architects thread.
