A rightwing film festival? Well, why not?
AFR's mission is to spearhead a revival of timeless American values in film and to serve as a forum for voices and ideas often marginalized by the contemporary artistic community. We assist filmmakers in producing and distributing films that reflect the principles that made America great, such as free speech, free enterprise, rugged individualism, freedom of religion and triumph of the human spirit.

Check the FAQ, too.

Found from here, which helpfully lists the winner of the 2005 AFR Screenwriting Contest:

Global Village Idiots by Russell Dvonch

Comedy: An idealistic young man joins an environmentalist commune where a series of comic disasters leads him to embrace the virtues of individualism, capitalism and America.

Good for them: that's awesome! And on the off chance that they are, in true Soviet fashion, more interested in the political values of the films than their artistic value -- and on the off chance that the films are kind of actually terrible enough to self-marginalize said values -- then all the better!

Well, there was the mention of them giving out basic screenwriting tips to folks who submitted scripts, so perhaps it holds such possibility.

also, from the faq:

We here at AFR love the movies, but we're not so fond of films that wallow in victimhood and self-pity or that portray America, business and religion as the roots of all evil. We remember a time when Hollywood produced films that celebrated timeless American values as a matter of course. Too many contemporary movies are hobbled by the pieties of political correctness and a worldview that is antithetical to individual freedom.

Speaking of Soviet/Stalinist...
