Gettin' old school with the drinking!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 21 January 2006 02:16 (twenty years ago)

I am drinking Maker's Mark from a flask. It says "Chicago" on it.

gbx (skowly), Saturday, 21 January 2006 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Maker's is very very fine, but it is corn squeezins, and therefore beyond the purview of this thread.

This is my libation of choice for tonight:

I am told that this

is superior, and available locally, but I have not located it.

Don't diss the Turkey.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 21 January 2006 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Wouldn't dream of it. It's grand, as far as I'm concerned. But I have a roving eye...

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 21 January 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

M'sM is all that's in the house. Soon: pizza.

Kenan, dude, what the eff is up with this weather? I want to kill myself.

gbx (skowly), Saturday, 21 January 2006 03:18 (twenty years ago)

Don't kill yerself. Just keep drinkin'. The pain will wash away.

And I don't know what's up with the weather. Looks to me like snow.

new hipster fav innit

Old Overholt is some good stuff. It was my first rye drinkin experience after a dozen or so years on whiskey, and the taste and flat qualities made drinking it for five or six hours totally feasible.

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Saturday, 21 January 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

if somewhat ill-advised.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 21 January 2006 05:30 (twenty years ago)

Rip Van Winkle Old Family Reserve Rye has been my favourite whisky for over a year now. Great stuff, so rich, makes a great sour.

If my interests and those of hipsters occassionally intersect, I'm not gonna cry about it or nothin'.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 21 January 2006 16:29 (twenty years ago)

A bottle of Van Winkle was gifted to my roommate a while ago and we still have the bottle around for the memories...good stuff indeed, right down to the photo on the back of Pappy with his dog hitched up to his golf bag.

Joint Custody (ian), Friday, 19 February 2010 04:35 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

i just dropped a bottle of overholt outside on the sidewalk after slipping in the slush. fuck being clumsy all time.

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

also, my fave local stores have been out of rittenhouse for weeks now!

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

yeah they have had some serious distribution problems, they basically over-committed and now nobody can get it. the bar where I work had to drop it and go back to Sazerac.

sleeve, Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

i had no idea you worked in a bar!

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

well, I'm a pastry chef, but there is a bar where I work.

sleeve, Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

i had no idea you were a pastry chef!

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

I'm glad that I was able to get a bottle of and finish rittenhouse 100 now that it's hard to get

dayo, Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

i've heard rittenhouse should be back in november. i am keeping a 3-4 bottle stash at all times tbh.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

also, for overholt fans: jim beam will supposedly be releasing a rye under the knob creek name next year. since they only have one rye recipe, it should essentially be well-aged, 100 proof, old overholt.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 30 October 2011 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

six years pass...

Sprung for a bottle of Michter's Rye on a whim because we needed whiskey for a baking recipe -- don't think I've had much rye in my life but now I think I may come to like this better than bourbon, which I try to like but find a little too sweet.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 10 September 2018 04:13 (seven years ago)

Just because it's a great song, let us not forget:

Sweet milk when I'm hungry, rye whiskey when I'm dry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die
I'll buy my own whiskey, I'll make my own stew
If I get drunk, madam, it's nothing to you
