T/S: Wallet or Money Clip?

For about 20 years, I was paranoid about having my pocket picked, so I used a money clip that held cash, my driver's license and a credit card. I won a wallet with $15 in it in a game of Dirty Santa this past Christmas, so I've gone back to a wallet for the first time in forever. What do you use?

What on earth is a money clip?

I use a wallet. There was a phase when I got pickpocketed twice in about six months, so I got a wallet with a chain. I have since dispensed with the chain but kept the wallet. However, I'm a girl so I can keep it in my handbag.

I never carry enough cash to justify a money clip.

Money Clip:

In my case it usually clipped three ones, the D.L., the debit card and my Kroger card.

See, to me that seems like it would be *more* likely to be lost or stolen because it's so small.

Dennis Farina did a thing on TV once where he said to keep your credit cards & ID in a wallet, and your money in a clip - so if you get mugged, you can throw down the money clip and run, and all you've lost is some cash. Oh, and you're supposed to say, "It's my great credit card, and you can't have any" as you run.

Is the idea that the money clip gets carried in your front pocket, where you'd maybe notice if someone else had their hand in there?

Yes, exactly. For the last three weeks, before going out I've been prone to patting my front pockets and panicking for half a sec because I've lost my D.L.

i have out-austered everyone by simply carrying folded bills and cards in my pocket. it's a post-wallet, post-money clip mentality and one day you will be advanced enough to receive the fullness of its, its wisdom.

i have out-austered everyone by simply carrying folded bills and cards in my pocket.

I did that for years. Cash in front pocket, bank card in back pocket. Didn't need anything else.

I don't think people in Britain use money clips. I don't know why.

One rare time, I won the fight with my dad over who would pay the lunch check. We get to the register, and I pull out my wallet, and Dad says, "You carry a billfold?" He said it like I had just pulled out a purse and had some tampons fall out.

I don't care. I still carry a wallet. It's fake leather embossed with wolves.

Here's what my dad's money clip looks like:

I've used a paperclip ever since I saw Tom Cruise doing it in Vanilla Sky. Way cool.

Alba is right to say that people in Britain don't use money clips. My paperclip is a conversation starter here. I dread to think what would happen if I got out a moneyclip.
