Stuck In SF

Due to some monumental fuckups on behalf of United Airlines, I have close to 24 hours to kill in the San Francisco area.

Is it worth getting on BART from the airport and going downtown? What's to see?

Everything, you damn fool! Just go!

What he said.

[commence arguing about where the best place to eat in SF is]

Hey, so, where do I get off to see cool stuff? We're thinking of getting off at Embarcaredo and doing the Pier thing. Where's Haight-Ashbury?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 22 January 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh good god, never mind about Haight-Ashbury. (That said, there's always Amoeba down the road. ;-) )

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 January 2006 18:31 (twenty years ago)

No no, Haight Ashbury is a cultural mecca, even still! Go there, then wander on into the park, you lucky dog!

Unless it's raining.

it's a hassle to get to haight from bart though, you'll have get on MUNI and take the N Judah. worth going I guess, the weather is nice today

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 22 January 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Aight, here the plan is.

BART it to Powell Street and go from there. Find some good eats, get back to the airport by 7pm to make our flight at 10pm.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 22 January 2006 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Go to Oakland instead.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:20 (twenty years ago)

No, don't. The good stuff is too hard to find in one day. Although Ghetto Gourmet is tonight, if you weren't leaving at 10.

Very obviously did the tourist thing. Took a Cable Car down to the Hyde Pier/Fisherman's Wharf area and walked through the crowds. Had a hell of a time and fell in love with the city. We know it's expensive and plenty of research needs to be done, but we are definitely considering moving there in the not too distant future.

The city reminds me of a bigger, brighter, bolder, hillier Melbourne.

I particularly loved the Bay. I really want to go out sailing there.

We're out there every day, on our yachts stitched together from peasants' faces.

Hm! Not a bad comparison, actually, based on my limited Melbourne experience. Glad you liked it! Come back soon, of course.

Adamrl is a stinky liar.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, don't hate, Adam.

We'll be back Ned, and maybe we could have a beer.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 03:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't hate you, Mike Stuchbery.
