So it is claimed:

Curiously, the market research firm also found that iTunes users comprise a readily identifiable audience in terms of their likes and dislikes for certain goods and services.

For instance, Nielsen said, iTunes users were 2.2 times more likely to own a Volkswagen than the average internet user. Audi and Subaru were also popular with regular users of the Apple store.

The research also revealed that the most popular alcohol drink was hard cider followed by imported beers. Top magazine among iTunes fans was hi-tech bible Wired.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

i don't have a VW (well, i don't have a car at all... but if i had one it might be a VW...).
i don't drink hard cider but a lot of beer which comes from france mainly (but basically, i don't care where a beer comes from as far as i know where it ends...).
actually, i only use itunes because i have no choice if i want to use my ipod !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

"Is that L.L. Bean?"

TOMBOT, Monday, 23 January 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

hasn't there always been an overlap between the apple/vw demographic?

i'm guilty of both. although i don't, and never will, own a weimaraner.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

maybe these stats only apply to the UK ? (as i'm not sure people drink hard cider outside the UK...).
as far as i'm concerned, from why i see around me (Paris), it would be more :
people who use itunes use the metro, drink red wine and beer (dunno about the magazine... not one in particular i guess...more like newspapers such as "le monde" or "libé").

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'm way over in the left tail, I guess. I drive a 5-year-old Mazda, drink wine and scotch before beer, and read Smithsonian, Discover and EW.

phil d. (Phil D.), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, who drinks hard cider? high schoolers? college freshmen?

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

the statistics is US based i think (from the PDF)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:43 (twenty years ago)

i don't even know what hard-cider is.. isn't that an oxymoron?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

and (to stevem) hence why all the 12-17 yr old VW owners.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

and also subaru

ken c (ken c), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

well, hard cider is a quite disgusting beverage i've only found in the UK (or only noticed there maybe). i got really drunk on it once there during my student'years. i find it bizarre that itunes users drink this the most...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

"hard" cider is to differentiate it from regular "cider" in the us which is like apple juice.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:09 (twenty years ago)

The only time I drank hard cider was when I lived in the UK and wasn't quite ready for beer yet. It's certainly available in the US but maybe not as common on bar taps?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:13 (twenty years ago)

It's pretty easy to find around here, although the most common ones I've seen on tap have been Strongbow and Woodchuck. Maybe there's some rule where you can only find it in the US if you're in Iowa...

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

1.5l bottle = pure evil

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:34 (twenty years ago)

lots of bars in boston carry cider jack on tap.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

looks and tastes like piss, and i'm proud to say it's the first thing that ever got me drunk.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:36 (twenty years ago)

when i got drunk on these strongbow bottles, i was on a creepy campus in leeds and ended up throwing a "get naked party" to which something like 4 people showed up (not counting me and my 2 friends as drunk as me)... i think i passed out before midnight (we'd been drinking since lunch)...and of course, nobody was naked !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 23 January 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

You guys realize that, in the US, stuff like Mike's Hard/Cranberry Lemonades are considered ciders as well? And there are tons of hard ciders in the US now, even Sam Adams makes one.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Also you guys realize that drinking Mike's Hard Lemonade will turn your clothing into a blouse and a miniskirt?

Dan (Blech) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:19 (twenty years ago)

and your tongue into an asshole

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:20 (twenty years ago)

And it will give you enormous tits.

Dan (DDs) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Time to ship this stuff over to Finland.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Dude, stop trying to reshape Tuomas into your ideal woman!

Dan (Creepy) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

It seemed like more the thing he would want for himself. You're the one who's turning this into your dream sex fantasy!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Disappointingly, this nonsense about Mike's Hard Lemonade giving your enormous tits is untrue.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Show me the study that refutes it!

Dan (OH NOES INTERNET DEBATE) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:26 (twenty years ago)

Teens are disproportionately represented among iTunes users; 12 to 17 year olds are nearly twice as
likely to visit the iTunes Web site and use the application as the average Internet user.

TOMBOT, Monday, 23 January 2006 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Why don't I just show you my tits and end this conversation!

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:32 (twenty years ago)

DANGER WILL ROBINSON

Dan (Please Oh Please Let My Wife Not Google This) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 January 2006 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Will soon be driving a Toyota Echo or Yaris.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 23 January 2006 19:08 (twenty years ago)

In LA CA, beer pubs that cater to a college age beer drinking crew, often have hard cider on tap for the young girlys who go EWWWW! to beer. I being older (and wiser) go EWWWW! to hard cider.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Monday, 23 January 2006 19:20 (twenty years ago)

i am a college age young girly who would rather drink hard cider than beer, but i drink beer anyway because i figure if i'm drinking something that doesn't taste alcoholic (like hard cider or smirnoff's ice) i might as well be drinking something that *isn't* alcoholic. i think that is the opposite of the thinking that makes people drink lots of hard cider/lemonade/etc, they drink them because they taste like soda or fruit juice instead of icky icky alcohol but you can still get tipsy from them.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 23 January 2006 19:30 (twenty years ago)

I downloaded iTunes, I was going to buy the latest Shakira song. I didn't coz I couldn't work out if it was a secure site, and paranoia overtook me.
