Anyone else got one of these things? With "codes" and "code search" and wahtnot? Yet it DOESN'T WANT TO WORK.

i have one, and figuring it out was totally confounding, so i had a friend look at it. it turns out that my vcr is too old and my dvd player is too cheap to cooperate, so i still use just as many remotes as before. but i could program my tv so i didn't have to go by every channel ever when channelsurfing.

i had one that was really expensive (it was a gift) but it sucked. every time i tried to do something like lower the volume on my tv there would be all these unexpected "side effects." like the fridge would turn off or something. plus it ran through batteries on a WEEKLY basis.

My problem is that my default DVD remote somehow "unprogrammed" itself so that only the numerical buttons work. So I got a cheap universal replacement but now only "menu" works! I have some DVD that I can't even access!

mine is very clever. so clever, in fact, that it can guess which device i want to be using ... and then fuck me over by doing something to an entirely different one.

i shit you not, the thing has AI. and hates me.

two years pass...

OK, so I'm putting in the codes from the list - which the remote actually identifies as the "right" code - but after I put in the codes nothing happens! argh...

get the good ones that can actually learn the buttons from an existing remote.
