You've been hit by...THE POWER OF LOVE

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

yeah it's really really obv in retrospect that the real ending got chopped off cuz i swear he does the crane kick, elisabeth shue rushes the court, zabka hands him the trophy and sez 'you're alright larusso', and daniel-san looks at his eastern mentor and goes 'we did it mr. miyagi!' and POW credits. also: every song on the karate kid soundtrack is either so awesome ("cruel summer" used so well) or so awful (every other song). also daniel-san is not only maybe a bigger wimp than you remember (i swear to go macchio looks 13 in this thing, and his upper body is like an 8 year-olds), and definitely stupider than you remember, but incredibly incredibly cockier than you remember albeit admittedly in that cocky trying to coverup awkwardness manner. it was a pretty endearing performance. those skeleton costumes were pretty awesome too.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:15 (twenty years ago)

elisabeth shue is DEVELOPED in this thing too

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm trying to remember some of that awful later go4 (by later read: post reagan inauguration) and all i can come up with is howard jones - is it during the prom scene? when that howard jones sounding song is playing maybe? and you're wondering 'is some of this dialogue improv? wtf???'

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:29 (twenty years ago)

Were your emotions about the film manipulated by soundtrack music in the background?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:31 (twenty years ago)

(Sorry. "Manipulated" is a dumb way of expressing that.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

i went to a costume party recently where somebody had done the whole shower curtain thing, it was great.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 January 2006 05:39 (twenty years ago)

Do not try the Karate Kid method of nail pounding if you lack depth perception.

Whoa...is TCM trying to put AMC out of business for good then? I mean wtf is AMC going to show if TCM is now showing that kind of thing???

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 26 January 2006 16:50 (twenty years ago)

I had an experience like this a month ago... I was watching Meet the Parents on Christmas Eve, and towards the end the awful way Ben Stiller's character was treated brough tears to my eyes. I don't mean to imply it was bad movie, I really liked it, but I wouldn't have thought that particulat film would make cry. I guess I was in a sentimental mood or something.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

i wept like a baby at the end of the fat albert movie. BUCKETS.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 26 January 2006 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I watched all four Karate Kid movies several times while I was in New Zealand cuz they were constantly on the hotel cable everywhere we went.

Why they gave whatsername the Oscar for Billion Dollar Baby and not for her ground-breaking gender-smashing role in KK4 I just don't understand...

When I picked up photos today, the guy behind the counter said "wax on, wax off" when he saw my last name (let's just say it sounds like Daniel - san). It's been awhile since I heard that one.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 20 November 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

I cried at Meet the Parents because of how bad Robert de Niro was treating Ben Stiller.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 November 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

This was on Christmas Eve though.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 November 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

I was totally on de Niro's side, I wouldn't want Ben Stiller marrying my daughter.

chap who would dare to welcome our new stingray masters (chap), Monday, 20 November 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

I know, right? Admittedly the daughter was very annoying, but you still wouldn't want your kid to end up with Ben Stiller.

Beth S. (Ex Leon), Monday, 20 November 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

unless he was always Tony Wonder
