Illegal in public (or is that an urban legend?)

Associated with the SAS and the IRA.

Keep your face warm!

Functional and intimidating!

What say you?

Wouldn't your brow get cold?

You'd be warmer in a burqua.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:03 (twenty years ago)

They're not all that big in the eye area. Mine is the warmest thing in town. And people fear you!

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Essential wear for bank robbing.

C J (C J), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)

I'd wear one with two eye-holes.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Excellent choice, Rumpie!

Dud for having frightened by accident a very good friend's mum wearing one! She wouldn't let him talk to me again. I still regret it. If only he had answered the door, life might have been very different or at least have involved more substance abuse...

Roxy, I thought of making a pink one with bunny ears.

YEah, I've been thinking about knitting some, actually.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Do you have a pattern?

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to be your first customer!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 26 January 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Can you make one with two eye holes for Rumpie?

I really hate when people have one with a mouth hole like that one Bradfield is sporting up there^. It makes your mouth look like some kind of prepubescent sideways vulva.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Thursday, 26 January 2006 15:00 (twenty years ago)

remember on brookside those scousers said ballies when they were doing "a job" i.e robbery

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 26 January 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

"ballies!" cuet.

This one looks really warm, possibly a bit much though (and looks less than intimidating):

I live in a suburb called Balaclava also, so therefore balaclava = cool.

CLASSIC!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
Balaclavas are classic! I like the hand knitted ones with one hole that can cover the face except or the eyes and can be stretched to expose the face when talking to someone.

Wear mine six months a year usually with a matching sweater and mitts. Prefer thick brushed wool. Always get favourable comments particularly from women. Never found wearing them intimidating to others.

Skimasks (three hole) on the other hand are intimidating. Wear these in the country rather than the city.

Hope to see more people wearing them.

one year passes...

I now own three.

The problem with these is: if you're actually trying to protect your face from getting cold, covering the nose doesn't really work out. Your steamy breath stays in the cloth and the moisture just attacts the cold. That's why I just wrap scarves all over my head (knitted neck scarves, haha) and get called Babushka by passing strangers.

It's really good for cold WIND, though. I.E., if you are a biker.
