Which do you like better and why?

It's tough for me. I like the quality of Cup Noodles better, but Ramen has better flavors.

These really are the best. Very versatile. Usually I mix in a chopped up blanched broccoli crown or a bit of chopped cabbage, but tonight I added chopped up smoked beef brisket, a little barbecue sauce, a little sriracha and some ginger/garlic spiced peanuts.

some of these prepacked ramen are approaching actual ramen prices... NOT COOL.

Philip Nunez, Friday, 24 June 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

There's a japanese store not far from me that sells the imported Japanese Nissin noodles. I found a 5-pack of their Yakisoba flavour noodles a while back and they are DELISH. Tastes quite like cafe yakisoba, with that saucey worcestershierey sauce. I add sauteed cabbage, onion and red capsicum to it.

Bloompsday (Trayce), Friday, 24 June 2011 00:56 (fourteen years ago)

US Yakisoba commercials are hysterically bad

My other fave Nissin flavas are sesame oil, garlic chicken, and tonkatsu.

Bloompsday (Trayce), Friday, 24 June 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

I used to love the nissin cajun chicken flavor but I haven't seen that in a while

Ramen noodles have been a fixture in my life for as long as I can remember. If I become a millionaire someday I'm still going to have it now and then. Recently I've been trying to eat more veggies in general so my typical Ramen meal is

heat water/oil to boil
added 2 chopped carrots cook for 15 mins
add large handful of kale & 1 pack Maruchan Ramen chicken or shrimp flavor
sprinkle in garlic salt
cook for 5 mins stirring occasionally
strain water
throw in some ice cubes
mix in Ramen seasoning packet
put on some anime & enjoy

*turn it to simmer when you cook the carrots/bring back to boil after adding kale/Ramen

Sub in tomato soup for the Ramen and throw in chopped potato w the carrots and brocolli w the kale for KILLER veggie soup

My "quick vegetarian ramen" lately involves making a broth by sautéing some aromatics and mushrooms in coconut oil, adding some tamari and sesame oil and other seasonings to make a broth. I finish the broth with miso at the end. Between the fattiness of the coconut oil, the salty sweet creaminess of the miso, and the earthiness of the mushrooms, I end up with a surprisingly meaty broth.

- frozen corn (ramen to me, usually has corn)
- kale (placed in the bottom of the bowl so it has more time to wilt under the broth).
- sliced deep-fried tofu
- other fridge-clearout veg as desired.

I top the bowls with chopped green onions (obligatory) and aji nori furikake. This shaker of sesame/seaweed seasoning has really elevated my ramen game. Why screw around with boiling a sheet of slimy kombu to make dashi when you can add it in a toasty, salty format at the end? It is really, really my secret ingredient.

Once I discovered the thin Korean buckwheat soba and the tsuyu (dipping sauce) concentrate at my local Korean and Japanese grocers, respectively, I haven't been back to ramen. Buckwheat soba cooks in about 2 minutes, during which time one can julienne a green onion and dilute tsuyu.

Cup Noodles (of any variety) seems environmentally suspect.

The 2X Spicy Artificial Chicken ramen is phenomenal. I had some for lunch and immediately ordered a crate.

They’re very hot, but tasty.

ShariVari, Monday, 19 August 2019 18:55 (six years ago)

accidentally poured a little of the nongshim shin ramen black broth down the wrong hole the other day and what seems only a bit spicy has a different feeling when you’re trying to breathe it!

I’ve been having a crazy craving for some Ramen this week and picked up the 2X as well as the regular spicy. Absolutely hit the spot, both of them.
