OSx86 10.4.3 Build 8F1111, because it's almost fully downloaded, and I'm about to install it on my Mac. Any words of advice?

I wouldn't. Chances are, if you had a new Intel Mac, you'd already have the x86 version of OS X. If you have a PowerPC Mac, it won't work.

Do you know what will? I have a 2 year-old Powerbook, and am trying to update to Tiger.

The regular version of OS X, one that does not say "x86". That denotes Intel processors.

Thanks, I'll try another one then.

I spent the last few days downloading a movie file that ends in DVDSCR.XviD-DVD. After it was done, I looked inside the folder, and it has 2 folders, titled CD1 and CD2, each containing a number of files that end in .r00, .r01 and so on. I tried to open the folders in VLC on my Powerbook, but they won't play. Should I burn the folders onto CD, DVD, or should I just delete the whole thing? Please help.

The .r0, .r1 files etc are Rar compressed archive files. Dunno what Mac software there is for those sort of things, but for PC's there's WinRAR etc. Kinda like stuffIt etc. all those .r# files will unpack to produce a nice wee avi/mpg file that you can play.

Yeah. What he said. If you get an avi, there's various programs you can use to convert it to a burnable image to make a DVD.

Thanks. Would I then have to extract each of those tiny files individually? There's about 50 of them. Is there an easier solution for the Mac?

WHen you open one of those .rar files in winRAR, the program sees all the files as one - you only need to drag 'n' drop once. I assume MacRAR (is there such a program?) works in the same way.

Can you run unrar from the console?

If so "unrar e nameofrar.rar"

Alright! I just downloaded UnRar and dragged the entire folder into it, and it took all the pieces and glued them back into 2 .avi files. Thanks a lot everyone!

You're welcome. I just hope we haven't helped you watch something rubbish and disappointing.
