Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

didn't realise he was in spatz

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

14. The 51st State (2001)

this has still got to be the worst film of this decade.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

22. Rancid Aluminium (2000)
... aka Rancid Aluminum (USA)

I find the ever-so-slightly-different titles far more amusing than the film itself.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:00 (eighteen years ago) link

omg 'young hannibal'!

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:06 (eighteen years ago) link

the Yahoo Serious comeback

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:08 (eighteen years ago) link

He's been himself a lot

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

he was good in 'enduring love' but that's a hell of shite brit-flicks there.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I like him as him. He's great on the first Super Furry Animals album, clearly tripping his tits off. Fucking awful career though.

The Man in the Iron-On Mask (noodle vague), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:12 (eighteen years ago) link

"The importance of being Idle" ?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:13 (eighteen years ago) link

He's probably a much better The Undertaker than The Undertaker himself.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I quite liked Twin Town

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Twin Town was good. He was great in Danny Deckchair, even though it was a semi-mediocre movie.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:47 (eighteen years ago) link

He was great in Enduring Love. The rest of the movie, not so much, though the opening bit was pretty stunning.

Floyd the Barber (Floyd), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:12 (eighteen years ago) link

He's great on the first Super Furry Animals album, clearly tripping his tits off.

Whuh-huh?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:13 (eighteen years ago) link

he's fucking funny in human nature

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:28 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, he's the best thing in that.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:30 (eighteen years ago) link

why was he not in "blunkett and doubloon" i wonder?

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:46 (eighteen years ago) link

or whatever that movie was called about the britishers in pirate boots

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:56 (eighteen years ago) link

he's fucking funny in human nature

-- s1ocki (slytus...), January 31st, 2006.

yeah, i was 'bout to say, he was hilarious in that!

TS: Rhys Ifans in the Oasis video for 'The Importance Of Being Idle' vs the Oasis song 'The Importance Of Being Idle'

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:30 (eighteen years ago) link

he kinda reminds me of the smart gremlin from gremlins 2: the new batch

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:41 (eighteen years ago) link

hahah otm, otm!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Good as Peter Cook the other Christmas, too, wasn't he?

lesgeorges, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:46 (eighteen years ago) link

in a fair world, rhys ifans would be allowed to ascend to a peter sellers level of recognition, and then i would remake fellini's city of women, with rhys ifans in the marcello mastroainimpossibletospelllastname role.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:47 (eighteen years ago) link

I have seen exactly none of these films

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned: The answerphone message on "Long Gone" is Rhys Ifans and another bloke.

The Man in the Iron-On Mask (noodle vague), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:54 (eighteen years ago) link

However much you hate Harry Enfield, Ifans was funny as the manc DJ "Eyeball Paul" in Kevin and Perry go Large. Them tunes ain't spaggage!!"

Paul Kelly (kelly), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 07:03 (eighteen years ago) link

He was at a friend's wedding last year and I chatted to him a bit. Nice enough guy, and I loved the way he played Peter Cook.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 09:20 (eighteen years ago) link

seen him in the movies

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 09:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I forgot Peter Cook. He was v. good, even if I didn't like the programme much. Can't really imagine anybody else doing as good a job. Hell, I even like him in Little Nicky.

The Man in the Iron-On Mask (noodle vague), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 09:34 (eighteen years ago) link

I saw the 'making of' docu about the 'importance' video. The bit where Rhyss knocks off work and drives home. That's the point where I said "bollocks to 'being in Oasis', he's the cool dude there"!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 09:40 (eighteen years ago) link

why is he meant to be indefensible?

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 10:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes, emsk, I was wondering that. While he's done some ropey films, his performance in Enduring Love was outstanding.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 10:36 (eighteen years ago) link

he's fucking funny in human nature

-- s1ocki (slytus...), January 31st, 2006 4:28 PM. (slutsky) (link) (admin) (userip)

yeah, he's the best thing in that.

-- The Man Without Shadow (miltonpinsk...), January 31st, 2006 4:30 PM. (Enrique)

MIRANDA OTTO (oh ok you're right)

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 10:37 (eighteen years ago) link

i saw him in the accidental death of an anarchist at the donmar, and he was really good in that, it seemed a role that fitted him without getting irritating. maybe it was sort of good that you couldnt really see his face so clearly as in close up on a film. dunno why i think that

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 11:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Stevem OTM about 51st State. Utterly abysmal. Ruined my theory that Samuel L Jackson could redeem any shit film as well.

More love for "Not Only But Always" please. For that alone, I'd defend him.

Mandee, do you mean "Plunkett and MacLeane"? He's not in it because yer "comedy bloke" roles were taken by David Walliams and Matt Lucas. Why did I still think of Rhys Ifans as a comedy person, even though the only time he's any good is when he's not being annoying-wacky-dude. He's the Welsh Jim Carrey, come to think of it!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:26 (eighteen years ago) link

He was good in his non-wacky understated role in Vanity Fair and more watchable than the twits in Notting Hill .

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:33 (eighteen years ago) link

also Ned: Ifans actually OG singer in SFA inna Duffy/Duran stylee

He was in a local pub one night during Deckchair filming or thereabouts (one of the co-stars was doing a support slot as singer-type person) and looked and acted exactly like wot he does in the movies. so "been himself a lot" = OTM!

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:03 (eighteen years ago) link

also Ned: Ifans actually OG singer in SFA inna Duffy/Duran stylee

Hahah, that's an amazing bit of trivia.
