Writing on bank notes

I met a friend for lunch today and we split the bill. Both of us pulled out £10 notes. Both of the notes had '300' written on them in the same place, in the same handwriting. Neither note was brand new and we'd got them from different cash machines. I thought that was pretty cool.

So anyway, 1. what are the chances of that? and 2. what have you found written on bank notes?

I've never written on British Money. I'd be scared to - like it doesn't belong to me, it belongs to The Queen and she'd come and find me and whack me with medieval torture devices or something.

I used to write on dollar bills all the time, though. Anything to break up the monotomy of that endless green. American money never seemed to be real to me, it was like Monopoly money or something.

(Yes to pint, Mark! And I can't help it if I look like a tv star. You're just jealous of my flowing locks)

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:40 (twenty years ago)

I guess I've spent my life not finding the same thing written by the same person on 2 different notes of different provenance, so the chance of it happening eventually were quite good.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I once had a fiver with "my last fucking fiver in the world" written on it. I thought it was a bit sad then I thought "who carries more than one fiver at a time?"

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:04 (twenty years ago)

i may start stamping a big cock on every banknote i get.

the kit! (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Ink it first.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:16 (twenty years ago)

We don't write on notes, but my dad staples money. (The money he spends on antiques for the shop.) So if you see two holes in pound notes: that went through his hands. :-)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Maybe we should all start leaving notes for each other on fivers and post here when we pick one up.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

i'll get found out though. cockprints are as individual as fingerprints.

the kit! (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Just to make it clear that by 'leaving notes' I meant actual words – I didn't mean making a John Bull printing set out of our genitals. Though feel free to do that if that's what you're into.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Really? Shit!

xp

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

it's all in the configuration of the veins and stuff.

the kit! (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

http://www.wheresgeorge.com/

Once when there truly was nothing going on in my life, I saw this URL on a dollar bill...and went to the site to add its serial number to the registry.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

You configure your veins?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

and get ladies to reconfigure them, yo

the kit! (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I drew a cock on a bank note recently and was surprised that I had never done so before.

Try taking Systems Engineering and Decision Analysis in the same semester.
It's like diagramming sentences for English class except instead of a
sentence you have the Space Shuttle program or a pest control
operation for 720 acres of forestland in Oregon.

Anyway I have an idea, I had this last night on the way home from
school. I'm going to invent a stamp that just has fangs and a cowl and
two dots, and you dip it in red ink and stamp it on the portrait of
the president on your money, and then you write "COUNT BUCKULA!!!"
above it. You distribute these among your circle of friends and then
after you've got about 20 million COUNT BUCKULAs in circulation, you
start printing your own from scratch and people are so used to it by
that point that they just accept the COUNT BUCKULA as regular currency
and the Secret Service has no fuckin' idea what to do. Subversive
currency. Also, you get to ask shopkeepers and bartenders if they take
Count Buckulas. Good for a chuckle.

More people are leaving my contract! The super awesome
here-at-5:45-every-shift republican guy and the Boston fan, gone in
two weeks. Turnover is back up to normal! Fuck this joint!

I like how ally included the "Mailed-By:" header....

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Authentic.

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

The other day, I got given one of those tatty bear soaked five pound notes in change. You are duty-bound to get rid of it as soon as possible. I spent it in Smiths on Metal Hammer (it had two free CDs), though I did apologise for the state of the fiver, I felt compelled to do so.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I wrote ILX on a tenner earlier. I wonder if anyone here will get it. I'll have to spend it in the Glasshouse Stores.
