I say classic. Who didn't like the stars of NBC's "Facts of Life" or "Hunter" getting slightly outrageous pranks pulled on them, or amusing local tv news broadcasters flubbing a line?

I tell you, it was a classic era.

DO they still make these? I saw one on tv a little while back that had a bit of reasonably recent stuff in it. Not like, last year recent, but Friends and shit.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 06:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh and I'm a sucker for TV and movie bloopers so classic, I say!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 06:41 (eighteen years ago) link

This was on the first night my family had cable back in the day. I imagined it was some sort of regular thing, a club like, and that it was the pinnacle of the television arts. In many ways, I still do.

"Gee Ed, my grand-daughter can't get enough of "(TV show name)" every Saturday"

"All of this is in the script! It's the lady's hat 2nd to the right, 3rd from front that we want you to look at!"

JTS (JTS), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 14:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Classic until it became necessary for Steve Lawrence to host "Foulups, Bleeps and Blunders".

And then when Wally Cox launched "Screwups, Guffaws and Boners"...

Whenever some sends me the youtube of the animal officer getting clawed by a leashed cat or the Georgia reporter who falls over after stomping grapes, I smile broadly knowing that at one time in history, one would've had to wait until Dick & Ed decided that we were ready for such horseplay.

What they could've done with the wrestler who snaps his ankle in two or the college girl who plays with the dildo on her bunk bed. "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes", you ended way too soon.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 17:40 (eighteen years ago) link

IIRC, it was later recreated as "SUPER Bloopers and Practical Jokes"

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 17:55 (eighteen years ago) link

MAX X, of course, plays these w/ san deigo sarcasto voiceover that you wanna hate but find yourself giggling at anyway.

flubbed lines are real boring no matter how big the star flubbing them.
actor: "blahblahblahblah......uhhhh.....i forgot my line! im sorry! hee hee. im sorry!'
everyone else on set while collapsing against the actor: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

are second takes so rare that this is really that funny for tv/film crews?

i also like max x for the lack of cutting to a yakky host.

or the college girl who plays with the dildo on her bunk bed

excuse me?

Cartoon Bloopers, with Walter Kronkite:
FRED: Come on over, Barney. I've got the brontosaurus burgers on the grill, and Wilma's got the buns.
BARNEY: A hee hee hee hee - Wilma's buns!

..does anyone besides me remember "The New Show"?

Dave will do (dave225.3), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Another reason for CLASSIC Status: Sergio Aragones! I figured the show was MAD approved (but, y'know--and I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN--, NOTHING is MAD approved, they even currently have an advertising type page where they promote current music, video games, movies, comics, etc, and they blast those too--but first they hype).

does anyone watch that 'girls behaving badly' prank show? somehow i end up feeling really embarrased for the girls playing the prank rather than the prankee.

I didn't forget about the sets; some sorta weird '70s hangover, all globe lights.

Also, i think that there was a certain make of microphone designed for all eternity as only to be used by game show hosts.

A couple months back I took a weird sudden dive into the world of "hilarious" web videos, and while way too many of them seemed to involve people breaking their legs or college guys rubbing their balls on sleeping friends' faces, I was amused as hell by a few things -- best of them, in a funny/sad way, being some horrible alcoholic "wacky" weatherman falling apart over a few months' worth of broadcasts.

college guys rubbing their balls on sleeping friends' faces,

yeah, it seems, as alluded to above, that the Blooper shows have been replaced by shit like Ebaumsworld

also, tea-bagging

I have to admit, I'm a total sucker for the newscaster stuff. You know, where they fart, or read their own names off the teleprompter, or randomly say "blowjob" instead of "global warming" or something.

Are you talking about the guy from Charlotte who would improvise his own horrible raps, complete with his own horrible beat-boxing? He brought his cellphone onto the broadcast once, daring his "chicken" news director to call him.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:41 (eighteen years ago) link

hahaha that's awesome. he was on live, right?

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's the guy! He sobered up and got a new job in ... Grand Junction, CO. There was just something captivating about his particular conception of humor, which was simultaneously totally corny and totally guyish -- something about the total drunken confidence that he was in fact being charming and lovable. It's really kind of incredible, a live weather broadcast that feels exactly like getting trapped at a party by the worst dude possible.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Makes for a helluva practical joke.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 6 June 2008 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Asked why a multimillionaire could not make his house payments, McMahon's wife, Pamela, said, "Over the years, it's a combination of maybe Ed working so hard and not looking at proper management. We didn't keep our eye on the ball. We made mistakes."

She added: "It's scary. I never owned a home before in my life before I met Ed."

King replied: "I don't think you'll own one again."
