I'm getting a new computer and want to take my old sound card and WAV files with me

when I got my XP in 2001, I got a professional sound card installed into the hard drive, an Audigy Sound Blaster by Creative. My question is, and I know it's most probably a stupid one, but when I do get my new computer, can I expect the shop to re-install my old sound card, or do I have to re-fit it myself?

Also, I have built up quite a collection of WAV files of my music, and I am wondering how I go about getting them onto the hard drive of my new computer without losing any fidelity (I understand burning them straight onto CD converts them into MP3s doesn't it?).

Just tell the shop to install your sound card into your new PC (if it already has a sound card that's not as good as the Audigy they're going to have to remove or disable it, but they do stuff like that all the time) and move the wav files to your new PC (if you don't need the old PC anymore, ask about putting your old hard disk into the new PC as well. You'll have more space ánd all your old files.)

And no, it doesn't. (wav to CD)

Yeah wav files are just files like any other (doc, exe, etc) - copy them to somewhere safe like cd or usb stick or external hard disk and then copy them back onto the new pc.

Get the shop to help put your existing soundcard into the new pc if you're not confident doing so yrself - its not all that hard but I can see how someone may not want to tinker with a PC's innards :)

No loss of fidelity will occur! That said, when copying the files out to cd etc, DONT let yr copy/burn hardware convert the files to ANY other format if it suggests to - just do a straight out copy to other drive.

Thank you very much StanM and Trayce!
