ITV approx 2am. Should be a good one. As long as Calzaghe doesn't break his hand again.

Yes!

Maccrenelli/Hobson on the undercard was a fucking slobberknocker of a fight.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I wonder if Victor Spinetti will be in attendance to watch his fellow Welsh/Italian.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:40 (eighteen years ago) link

That fight was excellent.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Who is gonna win between Calzaghe and Lacy?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:48 (eighteen years ago) link

It doesn't come on Showtime in the states until 8, going up against a card on HBO.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:48 (eighteen years ago) link

JAMES TONEY - former super middleweight world champion

Joe Calzaghe-Jeff Lacy is a mismatch. Lacy is going to destroy that boy. He's too strong, he's a fighter - he's proved himself.

Calzaghe never did anything. He beat Chris Eubank nine years ago, but what has he done since then? He's a joke, that's why he keeps pulling out of fights.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out of this one. Everybody in the UK is over-protected, but Lacy will be OK, because he's a fighter.

Calzaghe KO in the 9th.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:55 (eighteen years ago) link

I mean, people said exactly the same about Calzaghe/Lacy as they were about Tszyu/Hatton, and the supposed quality gap between C/L is a lot less than it was between T/H.

Toney should stick to turning the heavyweight division into a circus and failing drug tests rather than offering his unique insights.

I'm sure I can see Willie Thorne in the front row of this crowd.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Does Calzhage get some awesome Welsh music for his fight intros? The ridiculously over-the-top UK-pride intro was the only good thing about watching Showtime's coverage of the last Hatton fight in Manchester.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Sunday, 5 March 2006 00:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Hah, Danny Williams entering to "Ring The Alarm Clock" by Tenor Saw and Buju Banton is the best thing about boxing in 2006.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 01:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Amir Khan is wearing an absolutely horrid jacket.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 01:04 (eighteen years ago) link

This fight just now on the undercard is bloody dull.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 01:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't _want_ an undercard fight to go 12 rounds. I wanna see some tomato can hit the floor twice in the second round before the ref stops it in the third. And then we can go and interview Amir Khan at ringside and wonder if his mother still dresses him.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 01:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Why is David Barnes wearing a skirt?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 01:33 (eighteen years ago) link

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Is Calzaghe entering to "Firestarter?". He's wearing a kinda pseudo-tuxedo robe. Nice look.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Calzaghe: 7/5
Lacy: 7/10
Draw: 40/1

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy's brought a hype-man with him. How cute.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:24 (eighteen years ago) link

First round to Calzaghe, clearly. Although he's going to win this by boxing and not brawling, its definitely a treat to see him get pissed off and just start whaling on dudes.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I just hope Joe's hands hold up, and he doesn't do anything stupid like trading toe-to-toe.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:29 (eighteen years ago) link

10-9 to Joe in the second as well. He just flashed the best "Is that all you've got?" sneer as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:32 (eighteen years ago) link

It looks to me like he's trying to finish it within the first four. Unless his plan is to win the early rounds to force Lacy into going for a knockout, wear him out, and take the whole thing with a 10/11/12 knockout when he can't fight anymore.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:33 (eighteen years ago) link

"Easy! Easy! Easy!" chant from the crowd already.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:35 (eighteen years ago) link

30-27. Lacy has shown me nothing in this fight so far.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy's got an eye cut!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy has been a joke so far. He needs a miracle punch now, which he just doesn't show any sign of coming up with. Just another great hope with a manufactured record who couldn't get protected that much.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Calzaghe: 2/5
Lacy: 11/2
Draw: 70/1

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy has a big right though. Joe just has to be careful and he will win.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:46 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think Lacy showed enough respect to joe, they didn't realise how good a boxer Calzaghe is.
But anyone can throw a lucky punch.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:48 (eighteen years ago) link

I think Joe's won 6/6 rounds so far.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I score it that as well. Lacy needs a knockdown to get anything from this. Calzaghe's girlfriend's giving it some "KILL 'IM JOE!" action as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:50 (eighteen years ago) link

This isn't going to make it past the eighth. Lacy has just been a complete humilation to boxing here.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I thought lacy was gonna be stopped there. He took a doing in that last minute.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy's about four slaps from not knowing where he is. The ref is gonna have to stop this at some point soon.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:54 (eighteen years ago) link

One more flurry from Joe and it's over I reckon.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Lacy's face is a mess.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:55 (eighteen years ago) link

I scored that one a 10-10 draw.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah Calzaghe tired a bit there.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:57 (eighteen years ago) link

10-9 Joe. I've seen sparring partners put up a more spirited defence.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:01 (eighteen years ago) link

"what round is it?"
this has to be stopped.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:01 (eighteen years ago) link

How is this still going? The ref should have stopped this in the eighth.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I think Calzaghe has won every round.

last night i was on youtube playing old fights while i half paid attention and letting the algo pick, and so was just super entranced by the last exciting round of Chavez vs. Taylor II before it got to the final seconds and the angle on the ref suddenly clues me in that I've seen the very end of this fight before:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgenYK7VaxY

but i'd totally forgotten it was coming and it felt like i was reacting to it in real time, just shocked!! which gave it a whole extra level of fun. an unbelievable if safe ending.

Got up to watch this, unbelievable performance from Fury

crisp, Sunday, 23 February 2020 11:32 (four years ago) link

And a genuinely weird ring walk

crisp, Sunday, 23 February 2020 11:33 (four years ago) link

Thought Wilders corner waited waaaaaay too long to throw the towel in. Once they got through that next full round of not being able to get his legs under him after the knock down they shoulda called it. He wasn’t gonna be able to do anything and that was all damage that coulda been avoided. Wilder really just sits back waiting to throw that right and has no clue what to do otherwise.

Are we gonna get fury vs Joshua or what.

Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Sunday, 23 February 2020 21:41 (four years ago) link

Yeah it was scary for Wilder from the body-shot knockdown onwards, think the ref was seconds away from stopping it himself.

My understanding is that Joshua would need to fight or pay off Pulev and Usyk before fighting Fury, and Fury can’t deny Wilder another fight if he wants it. Feels like it’ll be 2021 if they do get it together...
