So I dismantled my iPod this morning...

...in order to replace the battery. I got a new high capacity one from Sonnet. The installation was pretty simple, though the video was a bit unclear at times. However, it's all back together and seems to work okay. It's just had a full charge, so now I need to go for a long, long walk.

Bah. The correct answer is

...and now it doesn't work.

Thankfully it isn't. Though there were MOMENTS OF TREPIDATION.

so i ignored my ipod this morning, when my postman was trying to deliver it (actually i didn't put in the flat number so the postman didn't bother and left a card). So now I can collect it tomorrow on my day off, AND ALSO RECEIVE THE NEW PROJECTOR THAT WE GOT ON EBAY YAYYYYY.

so, tomorrow will be spent setting up iTunes on a big projected screen. geek joy:D

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:23 (twenty years ago)

play catch with it. (that's what i do with mine)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

or set it as a burglar trap.

i was thinking of krazy-gluing to the floor of a mall or something equally outrageous

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

or the inside of my toilet bowl

Does anyone else have an opinion on these replacement batteries? My 3G iPod only gets like 4.5 hours on a charge nowadays, and I would much rather spend 40 bucks than 100, let alone 350 on an entirely new unit.

inside of the toilet bowl would be nice actually, for a peeing target.

We did a segment on this for Call For Help using one of the Sonnet batteries -- it worked fine! If you have the nerve to do this (it requires a hair dryer in some cases, and a few manoeuvres that seem like they might break the iPod -- it's certainly a feasible home project.

i am also keen to know about battery replacement, mine is kind of OK at the mo (10 GB, but early second gen i think (and second hand)), but it can only be a matter of time before it starts going rubbish i fear...
