I'm not sure how well you can know someone after just five months, but there again you can still not really know someone even after twenty years.

But after only 5 months? It's all still rose-tinted glasses at that stage, innit?

xpost : how old are you both??

Being in love when you are 18 is wonderful. Some people do marry young and stay deliriously happy for ever, but the chances of this happening are quite slim because people change - the person you are (with your life experiences, maturity, worldview, hopes, dreams etc) is probably not going to be the same as the person you will be at 28, or 38 etc. You may grow apart, and if you do then that's quite normal.

Enjoy being in a relationship with your boyfriend, but there's not really any rush to make things 'formal', is there? Just see where things go, and whether you both feel the same about each other over the coming years. or months.

C J (C J), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:19 (twenty years ago)

that is the best thing anybody has ever told me ... from experience or just common sense????

????, Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh it sounds like he's in love alright, not many people would marry for other reasons.

Maybe you should be questioning why he's asking to marry you after such a short time together.

Can't you just both be happy without the marriage label for now? If you're still together and in love after a few years at least then, who knows...

my husband and I met and started dating when we were 18 but we didn't get married until we were 29; I'm cautious like that.

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

My parents started dating at 16 and married at 18 (shotgun - me) and it was a MISTAKE. But you can't generalise from any one (or five, or ten) example(s). C J however, OTM.
