You are not a student any more. This stuff shouldn't bother you nowadays.

The actual answer is to show people you are a) cool and b) popular. However, what actually happens is that you prove you are c)anal and d) lonely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

PROOF OF ANAL?

What's a friends wall?

Hehe, I found out last night that my friend's thirteen-year-old daughter thinks that anyone who uses MySpace and who is over 25 is a pervert. (I'm going to try to add her to my friends and freak her out.)

I have several friends who've put up lots of photos of their friends on the wall, and I don't think they're trying to impress anyone. The photos just, you know, remind them of fond memories. The more scarier I think are the people who have several photos of just themselves put up in their flat.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

or photos of people taken with telephoto lenses

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I knew a boy who had photos of just ONE friend on his walls, that was worse. Coincidentally, she was incredibly beautiful.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I am ashamed of the posters I put up at university.

So you know people like this for real or just an example for humourous effect? ;)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

i simply don't own any photos at all.

25 yr old undercover cop (Enrique), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Matt DC OTM.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I've been to a couple of flats like that, yes. But they were like acquaintances or drunken after-party hostesses or something, none of my friends would do that, I hope.

(x-post to Kenan)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

(Sorry, to Stevem that is.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

ha ha, why on Earth would Kenan's name come up?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:52 (twenty years ago)

"drunken after-party hostesses" is kinda kenan already.

25 yr old undercover cop (Enrique), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I have movie posters all over my wall at work. Wouldn't do it at home, but it really disctracts the more annoying students when they see a Japanese poster of Vanilla Sky looming down at them, and Jerry Lewis in the Caddy learing.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I mixed "Konal" with "Kenan" for some reason.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 27 April 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I had the finest metal shrine made of cardboard CD longboxes on my wall, circa. 1990.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I am ashamed of the posters I put up at university.

the only two posters I allowed in my college apartment:

Marley smoking a spliff and Jules & Vince pointing their hand cannons were both vetoed. Thank god.

one year passes...

What is acceptable bedroom wall adornment after the age of, say, off the top of my head, 23? And no longer a student.

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:48 (eighteen years ago)

I don't have anything on my bedroom walls (except paint) since I don't usually watch the walls while I'm asleep/in the dark.

StanM, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:55 (eighteen years ago)

I HAVE A SCARFACE POSTER IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM, SHUT UP

That's so right somehow. White powder and all.

I have loads of nude females hanging on our bedroom wall. I mean, drawings and pics, not the real thing.

nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

maybe the real thing is the way forward for me. although that would probably be the kinda behaviour that would get me featured in a late night program on channel5 with an american voiceover. and I can't get channel 5 here.

at the moment I have a poster for the club night I used to put on, a poster from the guinness ad where the girl with the vampish black bob is drinking it, and a selection of interesting photos I have taken over the years. most of them don't have people in them. lots of bare wall space too.

Uptoeleven, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

I have a friend on LJ who, when redecorating and painting his bedroom, did this thing whereby he did diecut text all over one wall of... get this.... the names of all his fave LiveJournal pals. Like, their LJ names. All over one wall.

I can't decide wether that is awesome (I mean it looks cool!) or completely twisted!

Trayce, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

After the age of 30 I decided not to have any posters up any more on my bedroom wall. I love my blue coloured walls.

However

I do have a million GTA posters up on the lounge.

My gig tickets are all kept in a carrier bag somewhere in the spare room

Ste, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

I don't really get why when you get to a certain age you're not allowed posters any more. Not that I have any come to think of it, all the pictures on our walls are my wife's! We do have a board with a load of my old gig tickets on it though. Somewhere. I don't think it's actually on a wall at the moment.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:14 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I ever put *real* posters on my wall. Hmm. Nope, don't think so.

nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

Hehe, I found out last night that my friend's thirteen-year-old daughter thinks that anyone who uses MySpace and who is over 25 is a pervert. (I'm going to try to add her to my friends and freak her out.)

Haha, my fifteen year old sister was freaked out that I'd seen her webpage (particularly as I left stern older brother comments regarding homework and what have you). She'd made no connection between putting this thing up on the net and people, y'know, reading it.

Matt, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)

I do have a couple of band posters in my living room though. But they're framed, since I'm 35 and not a student anymore. (?)

StanM, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:27 (eighteen years ago)

I do have an Andy Warhol film poster. Never managed to put it up. Me lazy.

nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

> get one Bob Marley Legend poster

we have one in our office, i can see it from here. at least we have an excuse - they were former island offices.

koogs, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

She'd made no connection between putting this thing up on the net and people, y'know, reading it.

haha this still happens all the time! i used to work for a company which ran a business database and we'd habitually grab company info from the relevant website and then call the number we found - the guys would invariably say "hey! where did you get my name and job title? that website's not for you! the information is for clients only..."

THEN DON'T PUT IT ON THE MOST PUBLIC INFORMATION EXCHANGE ON THE PLANET, DUH.

also, i'm totally doing the gig ticket thing as soon as i have my own house. dead classy though, like, not all just stuck up with blu-tac.

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

i swear to god for every fucking harmless custom known to man there's got to be an obnoxious thread pointing out HOW LAME THAT IS DUDE

J.D., Wednesday, 18 July 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

i havent got anything up on any of the walls

Filey Camp, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 11:54 (eighteen years ago)

J.D. OTM. somebody hates everything. (hello ,ILX)

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

I have posters up in my living room, but they're framed and I call them "prints."

i have a bunch of steve gullick photos framed about my walls, and also photos and posters and album sleeves, all framed. and a bitchen bad brains poster blu-tac'd to my door.

stevie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

vs. almost bare walls serving as backdrop to poorly-concealed black power leads snaking around to a television set in the middle of the fucking room

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

i call this latter look "trust fund chic"

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

Justyn, it's okay that you have a smeared Pamela Anderson poster on your bedroom wall. Really.

nathalie, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

the only thing currently on the wall in my apt is this:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/allyzay/845117223/"; title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1052/845117223_93187280a7_o.gif"; width="700" height="486" alt="autaux" /></a>
except instead of "ray smuckles" it says "adam schefter"

this will be changed by my art is in transit.

Because of this thread I am now going to go out and buy a bunch of Japan/Bauhaus/Siouxsie etc posters and plaster my walls in them because I CAN.
