DXM, just a good time or just for losers

i was recently at a very very bohemian live music venue with some while on DXM (wal-tussin cough medicine). My three friends and I began to chat it up with 3 girls who in the course of conversation mentioned at least 6 differnet drugs/pills, some soft some hard, that they were either on or had done in the past week. It was understood that they do them quite regularly. We then told them what we were on (they had no clue). Of course they were appalled at this and let us know what losers it made us. Why? Sure its cheap and widely available, but whats wrong with that? Its fun and relatively legal. Its not addictive. Its not gonna destroy your life the way other 'higher class' drugs will. It does not make you less motivated the way other 'harmless' drugs will. What makes it such a loser drug?

chrisco, thats just the point. what about it being cough syrup makes it 'loser' as opposed to say using rx's recreationaly. For the record I take it in the pill form. And if this thread should actually make some one even think of using any form of cough syrup for fun make sure Dextromethorphan is the only active ingredient or you could fuck yourself up.

Promethazine with codeine, usually purple but depends who is is manufactured by. Barr national makes there's purple hitek makes theirs red. So its liquid codeine and Tuss the yellow or orange stuff is liquid Hydrocodone same as viocoden. Has nothing to do with alcohol these are all opiods. Tell your Doctor you got a cough that keeps you up at night and you have tried robotussin DM and it didnt work. 90% percent of the time you will get some syrup. sip it or charge your friends $15 an ounce no less

syrup is an opiod, opiods are = heroin, codeine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone,morpheine and whatever else i missed

Final Definition... the shit is CODEINE from COUGH SYRUP... aint no fucking rum and shit none of that gay shit..... its HYDROCODONE, CODEINE whatever from PRESCRIBED COUGH SYRUP u cant BUY SYRUP so anyone who thinks u can ur damn stupid unless u stay in mexico. kyle: actually studies have been done that show tussin does not really do anything for a cough. So its just a placebo and a fun ass trip in the 150 - 300 mg(of Dextromethorphan) range.

btw im from Houston so I'm well aware of the diff between tussin(dxm) and codeine(opiate).

Strange though. Can anyone actualy articulate in more than a few words their perception of tussin, be it as a 'loser' drug or not?

I think that perception of DXM syrup comes from the fact that, as you say, it's cheap and widely available, but on top of that you can just walk into a store and buy it. Sure, you can walk into a store and buy alcohol, but with the DXM what you're doing is abusing a common household product (cough medicine) to get high. That in itself puts it at about the same level as huffing model airplane glue or scotchguard.
The Rx stuff has slightly more cred just because it's Rx and, hey, it's got OPIODS. It's still fucking cough syrup, though.

Anyway, like TT says drug hierarchies are funny and they don't really make much sense but what you've learned from this experience is not to try and impress girls by telling them you're hella fucked up on wal-mart robitussin.

thats funny, cause actually we let the girls know we were tripping only after we collectively realized they were in fact total druggies. We were thinking "well they cant actually care that we're on dxm given the evniroment we were in and their admitted usage/abusage and if they do who cares at this point." We found it was hilarious that they were so condescending to too, especially after admiting to doing way more shit than we'd ever done. But TT was otm about heirachies and Marmotdeth as well with the point that its a 'household product'. Though not quite on the level of huffing industrial type chemicals as those are well known to cause brain damage where as with dxm its at least intended to be ingested in the first place. But Marmotdeth's point begs the question, if you can get dxm in its pure concetrated form, is it still a loser drug or simply another interesting hallucinogen?

I had some friends that did this kinda regularly in high school. Never had any desire to join in. The whole abusing household substances thing seemed a little too gross and risky even for my stupid teenage self. It felt like one step above huffing paint.

My experience with it was basically tolerating two fucked up assholes in a basement "WHOA MAN"-ing through Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas a half dozen times. Good years, those.
