lightweight tandem kayaks

We want one. We've been borrowing a tandem that weighs a ton—it's a major feat of engineering just to get it on and off the roof-rack, not to mention carrying it to the water.
The interweb is bewildering on the subject.
Anyone have a recommendation?

I wish I could help - we use single kayaks (Neckys) but are curious about tandem

however sea kayaks are gonna come before exploring tandem, how different & awesome sea kayaking must be

I'd be afraid that I'd immediately puncture an inflatable, but they must be tough.
Friends of ours have a folding tandem that they love, but it costs $4000!!! Somebody GAVE it to them!
My brother-in-law is offering to sell us his (non-inflatable, non-folding), but we'd have to go down to Annapolis to get it. Plus it's plastic, like the one we borrowed. Heavy.
Maybe the thing to do is get two little baby ones. That way you really find out whose steering technique is the best! We know a couple who split up over tandem kayak power struggles.
