pisces (piscesx), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

which dvd?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Computersex love scene. (Tron).

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

good thread idea. very few deleted scenes are good in my experience. i saw a fucked up version of 'x-men' that tried badly to incorporate the deleted scenes into the film, as a kind of 'extended' version, but in fact it involved the dvd jumping to the 'deleted scenes' section and it was shit.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

the only ones i can think of are the scenes from boogie nights, which are really funny.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

i did like the 'Rob Gretton gets lynched by City fans in some random person's back garden' scene in 24 Hour Party People.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

er, United fans, i mean.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeah the 24pp ones are pretty good in general.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

they're not on the n american dvd :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

The "Tusk" sequence from Boogie Nights was great, albeit conclusionless.

My pick is the scene from The French Connection wherein Popeye Doyle picks up the girl on the bike.

(x-post) there are some deleted scenes on the stateside 24hpp dvd. Not as many as the UK edition though.

Party Boy interrupts a rockabilly dance off (Jackass: The Movie)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

the UK dvd for 44hrpp in general is good (if you like the film). it's incredibly meta, and sort of puts all the bad manc blood about the film out there in the public domain.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

i just reviewed a bunch of dvds for a book, selected for their awesomeness as dvds (ie commentaries, docs, whatever) -- i don't think *any* of them had notable delted scenes.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

the boogie nights scene i'm thinking of is the doc that the julianne moore character makes.

also the argument in the recording studio w/john c reilly just going off on an amazing improvised rant.

come to think of it i think those deleted scenes were even on the VHS!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Does nobody else love the extra Spinal Tap scenes?

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Beyond great, those.

The "wire coathangers" scene from Josie And The Pussycats.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

is that something to do with MOMMIE DEAREST ?

pisces (piscesx), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

The funeral for Theodrid's son in LoTR Two Towers (it is HEAVY, Miranda Otto is SO GOOD).

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

Although I guess that doesn't count as it was in the extended edish. What's the word on extended/director's cuts as far as this thread is concerned?

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Friday, 14 July 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Hands down winner for me is from The Stunt Man - there's a scene where Barbara Hershey does some of the best acting ever after her lover catches her with another man. Apparently the director took it out because the audience sympathy for her character dropped to zero after that, even though both he and Hershey were aware its inclusion could've put her performance in the Oscar running. The DVD should force people to watch that scene after the movie ends, it's so freaking good.

The Dallas-in-cocoon scene from Alien is tres creepy - though the new "director's cut" restores it.

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 14 July 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, the extended "is this really happening?" forest sequence from The Brothers Grimm.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Friday, 14 July 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

An unlisted (on the box) one I like alot (my #2 pick) is the deleted opening from Walter Hill's The Driver, which sets up Isabelle Adjani's character. The movie makes soooo much more sense after watching this segment.

Shannon talking to Charlie on Lost about "that movie with those stupid midgets or whatever".

I like the way this is handled in "The Man Who Wasn't There" where the deleted scenes are simply Billy-Bob showing off a couple more haircuts.

100% CHAMPS with a Yes! Attitude. (Austin, Still), Friday, 14 July 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

waiting for guffman has two great deleted scenes: parker posey's audition, and very hungover catherine o'hara in the backyard enjoying husband fred willard's reenactment of the 1960 world series.

dan (dan), Friday, 14 July 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

Not a deleted scene, but Sam Rockwell's soft-shoe dancing in the "screen test" of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is classic.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 14 July 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

There's a great one on Honey, where this woman comes into the record store where Honey and her friend work wanting to by Marvin Gaye, and they talk her out of it because, if she wants to get her man in the mood, she should buy some Juvenile instead.

shane mcgrath (jackie susann), Saturday, 15 July 2006 01:16 (nineteen years ago)

a key deleted scene on the big trouble in little china DVD makes the motivations of gracie law much clearer.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Saturday, 15 July 2006 02:33 (nineteen years ago)

dan beat me to it (the parker posey audition scene in guffman - "WHO'S ON TOP AND WHO'S ON BOTTOM NOW!!")

back to the future - marty teaching his father to fight in his back garden. wonderful!

seinfeld - episode of the sniffling accountant. Kramer sitting at the bar and smokes and drinks at the same time, does a huge belp at the end erupting in smoke. much better than the original cut imo.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

sorry that was two, i'll go for the seinfeld one then

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

the "Big Woman" sketch squirreled away on the League of Gentlemen's Live DVD is worth the asking price alone.

Does nobody else love the extra Spinal Tap scenes?

PRICELESS, and worth entry alone for the fact that Tap keep their drugs in a boz decorated with images from the Charles & Di wedding (IIRC)

i am not a nugget (stevie), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

there is a deleted scene on the DVD of "The Good Girl" that makes sense of a key part of this movie. I'm not sure why it was cut and if you listen to the commentary, neither was Mike White or the director. IN fact, the movie is kind of baffling without that scene.

akm, Friday, 21 November 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

I like the deleted scenes from Close Encounters with Richard Dreyfuss charging around Wyoming in his pickup instead of working.

MaresNest, Friday, 21 November 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

Harlan Pepper's beach ball collection in "Best of Show."

All those deleted scenes were quality.

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Friday, 21 November 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

The deleted scene in Wet Hot American Summer with Jake Fogelneist is funnier than anything in the movie: "It feels so good when the come comes out."

I've encountered Whiney on numerous message boards and (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 21 November 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

I liked the bit cut out of "About Schmidt" where Nicholson does a 180 on his "Five Easy Pieces" character and graciously accepts that no substitutions can be made on the food order he gives to a waitress.

⊂⊃ ⊂⊃ ⊂⊃ ⊂⊃ ⊂⊃ (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 21 November 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

Superman 2's speech where Lois Lane, having lost Clark at the end (as he has to go back to being Superman) says 'I got the man i love to love me back right?' is just amazing. Criminal it wasnt in the (original) finished film. Mario Puzo was used to that sort of thing by then mind.

piscesx, Friday, 21 November 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

I have yet to watch the 1 hour of deleted scenes on the inland empire dvd

there's gotta be something good in there somewhere

Edward III, Friday, 21 November 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

In the "Homer's Barbershop Quartet" episode of the Simpsons, the press conference the BeSharps hold to announce the formation of Donut Records:

Skinner: "Frankly, we were expecting a bigger turnout."
lone journalist w/ Droopy Dog voice: "I just came for the free donut."
