heathcliff seems like the badass at first but i'd rather have garfield on my side, he's like grant to heathcliff's lee.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, c'mon, Krazy Kat. Just dodge the bricks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

Heathcliff. Can't support the house kitty against an alley kitty.

And the fence-top caterwauling? Classic.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

remember the heathcliff cartoon? it was weird because it seemed to focus more on this other cat, this junkyard tabby called "riff raff."

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

i found that weird.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Then of course:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

well wasnt it one of those split shoes, where the first 15 minutes were Heathcliff, and the second 15 "riff raff"?

but yeah, it seemed to be more about riff raff.

ryan (ryan), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

I kinda forgot how typical/weird the cast for that was:

Arnold Stang .... Top Cat (voice)
Leo DeLyon .... Brain, Spook (voice) (as Leo De Lyon)
Paul Frees .... Various voices (voice)
Maurice Gosfield .... Benny the Ball (voice)
Allen Jenkins .... Officer Dibble (voice)
Marvin Kaplan .... Choo Choo (voice)
John Stephenson .... Fancy-Fancy/Pierre (voice)
Jean Vander Pyl .... Goldie (voice)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

yeah and riff raff had these three sidekicks who used to show up in heathcliff's cartoon, but riff raff never did! they never met! maybe they were really the same cat.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, I almost made this same thread a few weeks ago when I bought these DVDs for dirt cheap at Rite-Aid:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00026L7YA.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B00019GHRU.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

well wasnt it one of those split shoes, where the first 15 minutes were Heathcliff, and the second 15 "riff raff"?

Yeah, the second half was "The Catillac Cats" featuring Riff Raff. A few of those are included as bonuses on these DVDs.

This 4-disc set has the episodes in their original split format, but I'm not sure I want to spend $30 on Heathcliff:

i can't remember Heathcliff's personality that well. he is a bit of a blur in my memory. was he ornery?

ryan (ryan), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

A good, thorough online review of Heathcliff to refresh your memory:

Marmot 4-Tay: what those guyz make music 4. (marmotwolof), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

riff raff segment was called "cats & company" i think, they even had their own theme song (tho it was just the heathcliff song with different words).

heathcliff was mel blanc's last voicing job, so he sounds kinda like a higher-pitched bugs bunny.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 15 July 2006 22:41 (nineteen years ago)

From wiki:
In the end credits and on home videos, the Catillac cats series is commonly referred to as "Cats & Company", or Cats & Co. DiC did want the title to be The Catillac Cats, however the company was unsure if the Cadillac car company would have a problem, so througout most of the first season, the gang name The Catillac Cats was not used until "Hector's Takeover". In the second season, the gang name was used more, suggesting that DiC were no longer afraid of action by the Cadillac car company, or a deal had been worked out, or the car company just didn't care.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Sunday, 16 July 2006 05:56 (nineteen years ago)

there's something kinda cubist about the way top cat's drawn in that pic

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 16 July 2006 06:01 (nineteen years ago)

i just remember the heathcliff cartoon having riff raff continually trying to bang his "blond", leg-warmer-wearing cat girlfriend?

This may go QUICKLY down the same path DC Thread 10 went - back away from the yiff. Put the yiff down, and back away.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Sunday, 16 July 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

er, Garfield. But the strips suck after around 1986 or so.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 16 July 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

wait was riff raff the one who wore the rollerskates all the time and rapped everything he said? or was that someone else

ath (ath), Sunday, 16 July 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

That was Wordsworth.

The Top Cat theme song (and other Hanna Babara cartoons of the era) was sang by The Randy Van Horne singers, who did all the vocals on the Esquivel catalog.

Princess TamTam, Saturday, 4 December 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

lol this is true. I used to watch Healthcliff a lot and know this by heart. True story - this theme song pops into my head frequently - too frequently to make sense. I'm talking at least once a month or so. I have no idea why.

ENBB, Saturday, 4 December 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, it's insidiously catchy. i was never into the show or heathcliff in general for that matter, but i can pretty much remember all the lyrics all these years later
