Who up in this bitch has hyperhidrosis?

It happened again to me tonight -- the sweaty betty superdrenched freak show. I've got no problem with the palms and feet -- it's the forehead for me. I was just telling Beth about it this afternoon. Maybe talking about it brought it on. It seems some people get Botox injections to deal with it. I am so tired of sweating profusely when it's just a little hot or I'm focused or feeling just slightly shy. It's a vicious cycle -- I feel a little shy, start sweating and blushing, start feeling more and more shy, blush and sweat more, until I've got a wet head, steamed-up glasses and am bolting for the door.

There are websites that advise and advise against spreading anti-persperant on your forehead. Can't imagine doing that.

Is their a dating site for hyperhidrosis people

With the botox injections, don't you run the risk of overheating and even if not the sweat has to be released elsewhere, so it just becomes a sweat-shuffle?

A friend gets a special deoderant from her doctor. She and her brother occasionally have serious sweat problems.

I've been trying to figure out what brings it on. I think the last couple of times it happened in social situations was first caused by the purely physical. I've always sweat a lot from physical activity. When I'm walking carrying a baby on a hot day, I'm sweating anyway. When I carry a baby on a hot day to a party, I'm sweating a bit and then feel self-conscious and the spigots open. I have to learn to not be self-conscious about it. I think it runs in my family. After the last C-section, I went into a supercold sweat for a couple of hours that had nurses running to wrap me in special thermal blankets. I think oversweating runs in my family (dad, sisters) - my boys often wake up drenched when it's not all that hot.

I'm sure there are other ILXors with the problem. C'mon, fess up!

a friend asked a trainer at the gym about sweating so much - the trainer replied you're lucky.

seems like the obvious solution is to join a gym and become lucky.

ILXors don't sweat. They perspire.

They have to hose down the tennis courts after Donald plays.
I used to sweat way more than I do now. When I went out dancing my face would pour with it, and I'd just sweep it up & back into my hair, which was very short and spiky at the time, so it worked. It took finesse to do it without wrecking my mascara, especially when under the influence of alcohol and multiple drugs. Perhaps I did ruin my mascara after all.
Those were the days.

my friend did the Botox thing, just his armpits. He said it worked amazingly well, but it didn't last as long as the doctor said it would.

I've had the same problem in the past, and you're spot-on about being self-conscious making it many times worse. I guess I just don't worry about it now, and it never gets to that ridiculous stage. I like being warm-blooded. I think it's a sign of having good circulation, which is healthy. I never catch colds, and am always wearing t-shirts in the middle of winter.

Mine's axillary [armpits]. I have to get aluminium hydrochloride all up in them pits, otherwise I run like an eskimo's nose.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder if I can get a shampoo with aluminum hydrochloride in it. It's my scalp and forehead. Then I could call myself a metalhead.

Or you could get some stylin' tennis player terry-cloth headbands!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

Mine is my right armpit and right hand. I don't sweat on the left!

Zora (Zora), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

I would need to carry a small bucket in which to wring them out.

There is a product available from pharmacy.ca called Secure Wipes that has been effective for people with facial sweating. They are pads soaked with a drug often prescribed for hyperhidrosis but applied topically they cause no adverse side effects.

I tried using them on my feet and found them to be fairly effective though a bit of a pain to apply. They supposedly don't always work on feet as the skin is thicker there. I can imagine them being effective and easy to use on the face.

Here's a good forum for this stuff:

Zora, are you right-handed? If you reach for things (eg. a mouse) more often with your right hand, it'll pull the fabric of your shirt up against your right pit more, and the transference of moisture will give the impression that you're only sweating on one side and not the other.

Mädchen, you are a scientist of sweat!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 01:13 (nineteen years ago)

I am right handed Mädchen, but I also notice the right-side-sweaty thing when walking about, sitting talking, driving etc. Especially driving; my right hand skids about ickily on the steering wheel & my left doesn't.

The slightest hint of chili, or more than a pinch of pepper, or a taste of non-totally-bland mustard... and it pours from the pores. Only forehead/scalp (which is getting hot right now from even thinking about it). Also sweat v v easily and much in hot weather or during physical activity.
