i need a good alibi to get out of friday night work drinks.

i have used these two before:

-dad in hospital
-meeting other people

one of which was basically true.

i can't see myself saying "must catch 'the west wing'" either.

Just tell them you've already arranged to be elsewhere.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

ah no this has been arranged for so long that that was never an option. it's a leaving do for a long-term co-worker.

Go along for one drink, nip outside to "make phone call", never come back. They'll get so hammered they won't remember.

ledge (ledge), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

"I think I can stop by for a little bit" followed by not showing up, followed by, "I got held up at the office and then had to get home to let my neighbor in who got locked out of his house. How late did you guys stay? Oh, really? I should have come back. damn. Dja have a good time? Yeah? Fuck."

DAVE's secret to fortu-Oh look! Shiny! (dave225.3), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I always use the "No, you guys go ahead, I'll meet you down there..." followed by "Sorry, I got totally caught up in this massive thing..." the next morning.

Kaet (kate), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

yeah that's basically gonna be it, i think!

that or the old getting the headache. i only ask cos i was just sort of RE-ASKED in a really obvious "i know you bunked last time, buster" kind of way.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

You should just go for the drink. You might pull.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

a friend of mine used the "mother's dying" twice. his boss did not appreciate it.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, these aren't really alibis, unless you are some kind of pre-cog who forsees yourself murdering a colleague over drinks.

very true

oh just don't go, tell them you don't want to go ffs. why should they care that much?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

why don't you want to go, out of interest?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

i just saw the ep of 'curb' where larry's mum dies. one of the funniest things i've ever seen. but i'm not going that far!

xpost

certain to be awful nightclub in trocadero, people i dislike, that kind of thing.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

oh right yeah it's not so much 'drinks', which i can handle, as a full-on out-till-whenever night out.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ugh, in that case, go for the first drink then slip out to make a phone call.

Kaet (kate), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah game on, fuck it, i shouldn't care about this really.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

If you can have someone else call YOU at a predetermined time, you can answer your phone in front of your co-workers, thus making your reason for leaving seem much more urgent.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha yes, this is good, i like this.

at the last one a co-worker got a call saying that the police were at their house and they had to go NOW at like 7pm.

i've wondered whether that was an alibi.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

unless your co-workers are aware that your phone is never on silent you could mime the whole thing if you wanted to.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

go for the first drink then talk to a group of hot girls in the club, within sight of your coworkers, then disappear. they'll draw the obvious conclusion and youll be a workplace hero.

i thank you for your confidence in my skills here.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

nb: all of my co-workers bar one are female, so it's always kind of girls-night-outty, which is why i've avoided so far...

I used to call from my cellphone to my phone so I could get rid of my grandmother. Trust me, she's not one you want to chat with for hours on end.

yeah you say that like it's a bad thing sheesh

i crashed a hen party last weekend, it was fab

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

My MO: get really pissed by, say, 8 o'clock. Then go off on your own. People will a) be glad to get rid of you, b) assume you're dead.
