----Animated.

Fuck this then

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

It's nice to see someone do fantasy films in animation, in my opinion the format fits the genre perfectly. I always though the new LOTR films would've worked better animated too, despite it's flaws I really liked the Ralph Bakshi LOTR adaptation.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, x-post. What have you got against animation, Andrew?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:05 (nineteen years ago)

OMG

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:14 (nineteen years ago)

This is a soapopera, not a (genuine) fantasy/etc thing. It needs hotass actors. I loved this shit HARDCORE back whenever, I was pretty excited till I read that. I can work out a makebelieve castlist if you like.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:46 (nineteen years ago)

I have NOTHING AT ALL against animation in general!

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 20 July 2006 06:47 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I'd kinda hoped too that, if they start making animated versions of fantasy books, they'd start with something else. The film won't probably include the sex scenes.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 20 July 2006 07:06 (nineteen years ago)

GO' HEAD, PHIL LAMARR

STATIC IN DA HOUS, Y'ALL

OMFG

i can't wait for this!

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Thursday, 20 July 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

I...have to wonder.

The original Dragonlance thread, for reference.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Crispin Glover shoulda been Raistlin.

Damn, Atreyu! (x Jeremy), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Beautiful.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Boy, I really hope they come out with some black gothic-fonted t-shirts to promote this, because then I could be way cool.

Damn, Atreyu! (x Jeremy), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, hold on:

Bupu
Jentle Phoenix

Is this ANOTHER Phoenix? (That would explain the crap-ass name.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

HO. LY. SH. IT.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

I think Dee Bradley Baker has probably the most interesting career of any voice actor ever!

I was really hoping for BILLY WEST = TASSELHOFF.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

i was hoping for G-Kit = Tasslehoff
:( :( :(

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, Billy West for FIZBAN. He does old crazy guy voices SO WELL.

Michelle Trachtenburg actually looks very much like what I imagined Tika to look like, only she has straight hair.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

i was hoping for G-Kit = Tasslehoff

What, you're saying we should cast ILX in this film? Dare we go there?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

NED = RAISTLIN

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

Only if you give me Nivek Ogre's voicebox.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

The screenplay has been adapted by George Strayton, whose credits include "Cleopatria 2525", "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys".

Well, I can ignore this, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Far be it for us to mock other message boards that aren't rightwing/ign/gamefaqs/imdb, but....this one doesn't seem too bad, considering

kingfish cyclopean ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, no VERMINAARD? Is this going to be one of those things where they only do the first 2/3rds of the storyline?

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait, right, PYROS is in there. Maybe they just haven't cast VERMINAARD yet.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

VERMINAARD.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 July 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I've been waiting for this since I was eleven.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Thursday, 20 July 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

ok I think kiefer as raistlin is kinda exciting. Althought it was more exciting before I read it was animated.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 20 July 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Umm, dudes ... you want a live-action Dragonlance? Send money to these Turkish dudes so they can follow up on their trailers:

The Obsessions
Living the Pain
Meeting the Heroes

Their line readings may not be so good, but their costumes are based strictly on the Larry Elmore drawings, and their AWESOME Sturm makes up for their hilarious Flint.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

OH HOLY SHIT

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I can't wait to get home & watch them with sound on!

Their whole budget must've gone to making Kitiara's helmet.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

SUCH AWESOMENESS

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm too scared. I can't look.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

DO IT. I mean, c'mon, dude: Turkish Dragonlance re-enactment. Have three more beautiful words ever shared a sentence?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

WTF Laurana but no Tika!?!? WEAK, TURKEY.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

WEAK.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, maybe it doesn't have the greatest screenwriter,
but it was such a fantastic novel, maybe it will still
be at least watchable (crossing fingers)? Besides, this
Mike G. guy who's directing was involved in the
original X-Men series, and that was quite good.

For what it's worth, it seems like a solid cast.
Kiefer Sutherland seemed like an odd choice at
first blush - but then I realized it's brilliant.
That cheesy hoarse "badass" voice
that he always affects might actually go over
in an animated movie about dragons.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, maybe it doesn't have the greatest screenwriter,

I was referring to the Turkish trailers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, Turkish Rivermoon is the best thing I've seen all month.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 05:21 (nineteen years ago)

Their whole budget must've gone to making Kitiara's helmet.

ROFFLE

Goldmoon/Riverwind NAMEMELD

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Hickman speaks:

We also met, for the first time, the director of the upcoming Dragonlance
Movie. There, in a lounge at the Marriott Hotel, we all gathered around a
portable DVD player and watched the first pass animatics for the first
two-thirds of the Dragonlance Movie. It was a real thrill for us because we
got to hear Kiefer Sutherland's voice as Raistlin for the first time. It
gave us all delighted shivers. Lucy Lawless was wonderful as Goldmoon and
the rest of the cast utterly superb.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

wha happen??? where was i when this thread started??

gbx (skowly), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Drunk off your ass.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

it's.....true.

gbx (skowly), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 05:22 (nineteen years ago)

either way i'm seeing it in a viking helmet

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

Since when did Dragonlance become Fire Emblem?

At any rate, this will be released this week.

kingfish, Monday, 14 January 2008 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

It's nice that it's not CG, but that's about all it appears to have in its favor.

Abbott, Monday, 14 January 2008 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

this was SO VERY BAD.
therefore i am so very sad ;_;

g-kit, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

That cover image alone. Oh well.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Me and my friends had grandiose plansto make our own Dragonlance film when we were ten. The furthest we got was persuading a red-headed boy to start growing his hair so he could play Tanis.

chap, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

This movie was god-awful even before the CGI draconians entered stage left. Heartbreaking.

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

Also wtf cover, Raistlin is not a raise-his-hands-go-"aargh!" dude whatsoever.

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

Turkish live-action youtube clips are down too! Could it GET any WORSE?!

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

My god, that's one of the worst movie covers I've ever seen! I know the movie isn't bid-budget, but you'd think they could've afforded to hire a better artist than some third-rate fantasy illustrator?

Tuomas, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

What's up with the elf-dude's arms? They're so tiny!

Tuomas, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

guys how good could it have been when the source material was straight garbage?

gff, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

It was very enjoyable garbage, thank you very much.

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Michael Rosenbaum is a shit Tanis. His voice was so offputting.

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

Phil Lamarr should've just done all the voices.

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

i am proud of myself that i don't really feel compelled to stop and gawk at the trainwreck.

ian, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know whether to cry or applaud for you

remy bean, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

have YOU seen it?

ian, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

i couldn't even get linds to READ dragons of autumn twilight.

ian, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm watching it right now!

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

I don't remember Tanis being so important?

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

he was like the main dude!!

ian, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Oh guys I think gun-arm guy in Final Fantasy VII was based on THEROS IRONFELD.

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ totally forgot all about that guy.

ian, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

haha omg when Fizban casts feather in this they don't float they land on a big pile of feathers

nickalicious, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

At that rate they should have made Tanis literally half-Elven in appearance, like Two-Face in Batman.

"But the book SAYS 'Half-Elven!' We're just doing what you said!"

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 January 2008 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

he's all elven from the waist down.

remy bean, Thursday, 24 January 2008 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

his licky bits drink hummingbird nectar, he pollinates only with their assistance

remy bean, Thursday, 24 January 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

iirc, Fizban doesn't finish the Feather Fall spell in the book either; he hits the floor and goes squish, but the half finished spell summons a gajillion feathers, which Tas lands on moments later, preventing him from meeting the same "fate".

but w/e - like anyone watching this movie would give a shit about any of the characters anyway. Bupu/Raistlin dynamic reduced to about 3 lines.

this movie is such an abortion. makes my heart sad.

g-kit, Friday, 25 January 2008 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

I wish they hadn't bothered with this. I knew it would suck but I've been morbidly curious for months. Perhaps the worst adaptation I've ever seen.

It's clear they farmed out the animation to several different companies and absolutely NONE of the different styles match. It would have been better all 3d or all drawn. The mixture is utter crap.

Even the voices are terrible.

Sure the original books aren't literature, but they are at least consistent in tone. This is like a movie that came out of a gumball machine.

Nate Carson, Saturday, 8 March 2008 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah... it's a shame. a total shame.
