Man's hunger protest to win back his wife

^^ This bloke's been sitting in the street starving himself for 32 hours and won't move until his wife comes to see him. He has a huge sign next to him and one around his neck saying "I WILL STARVE TO DEATH UNTIL MY WIFE FORGIVES ME - PLEASE DON'T GIVE ME MONEY OR FOOD OR DRINK!"

Stupid pointless gesture? Brilliant way of conveying his undying love? What do you think?

How far would/did you go to get someone back?

This is one of those stories that papers rarely follow up. I'm desperate to know what happens and might never find out.

The gossip in me really need to know what prompted the fall out too.

Most of the comments in the Scotman article are rubbish (including a "they should send him back to Turkey!" WTF) but someone's calling it emotional blackmail, which may be OTM. If he did wrong why should she be going to him to stop him starving?

What's happening to the food he isn't eating? Is he just throwing it away?

Yeah, it's totally emotional blackmail. It's an even more public and humiliating version of the old "I'll kill myself if you don't take me back!" routine.

So do big gestures like writing poems or songs or getting a fire engine to lift you up on a platform to her room or getting I'M SORRY displayed at a sports match or all the other things you see in romantic comedies ever work?

If someone won't talk to you but you don't think the relationship is over what else can you do?

Poor chap. I actually know quite a bit about Turkey.

Writing songs or poems or creative gestures like that are one thing.

But threatening to kill yourself if someone doesn't take you back is not on - it's emotional blackmail, controlling to the point of abusive.

I agree.

Do any of the more acceptable gestures actually work? If someone fucked me over then turned up with a poem I'd tell them to fuck off.

I shagged yr sister and I wrote you a song
Just to say I know I was wrong
I know I really should have been strong
But I couldn't resist her lacey wee thong

A bit like that Shaggy song...

"Gonna tell her that I'm sorry ..." etc.

Shaggy's advice should have been :
"Man, she saw you in your house, video'd it, all that. You aint talking your way out of this, forget it."

So, what would Shaggy say to this dude?
