The birthday (50!) so far: worked very briefly, returned to to wipe Donald off the Canfield scoreboard FOREVER (6379), went to beach, defying road-association bylaws by swimming in MY BIRTHDAY SUIT. Nobody was there but us. Read. Fell asleep. Returned home, started small bonfire. Just dragged a fallen hickory limb out of the woods and will section it with my dull pruning saw. Or shame one of the boys into doing it. On a clear liquid diet became of tummy woes, but last I checked, wine was clear. A glass awaits.

Because I like Wallace & Gromit so much, I thought I'd try and find a picture of a W&G birthday cake for you. What I found instead though was this abberation, purportedly made by a professional bakery known for always having appallingly bad character cakes in their shop's window display :

Thank you! The birthday festivities continue, because—get this—we got so wrapped-up in the party that we FORGOT ABOUT THE BIRTHDAY CAKE.
It was supposed to be taken out of the freezer an hour before eating, but it was bedtime by the time we remembered it. So we have to have another party! It's a fabulous cake with four layers of different kinds of chocolate and mousse. A chef we know makes them as a side-line. I ordered a giant one for my husband's 50th and covered it with raspberries. Num num num.
