MONKEYS!

There are monkeys on the loose in Regent's Park after a break-out from the zoo. Assorted primate boffins with big nets are running around and climbing trees in a bid to round them up. Very amusing to watch.

Go monkeys!

starry, your mad Ape Escape skillzor are needed! get to it.

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Thursday, 27 July 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

I can't believe you people aren't more excited by this.

Monkeys, everyone, monkeys! On the run in Camden! Surely they're more exciting than a boring old whale bobbing up and down near Battersea?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

we're so excited we can't even coherent.

Fictional films in the Simpsons about non-human primates (from memory):

Gorilla Squadron
Gorilla Island 6
Apes A Poppin
Hail to the Chimp

Anyway...youtube?!?!?!??

i hate monkeys

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

I have the insight gossip on this, btw, from someone Who Is In The Know.

They're squirrel monkeys, apparently. Four escaped from the zoo over the weekend and have been recaptured, but another one got out this morning. The way they catch them is to wait until they climb down the tree to feed (which they will do in the late afternoon/early evening), then to stop them climbing back up they lop a couple of tree branches off. I understand from my sources that two zoo employees are currently sitting at the botom of the tree where the escaped squirrel monkey is hiding, to guard him until he comes down of his own accord.

My sources say nothing about primate boffins with nets :)

Ah, the King Kong Complex. Blonde babes hate monkeys ever since that movie, but all he ever wanted was someone to love... :-(

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

You could write a song: (Tell Me Why) I Don't Like Monkeys.

The b-side shall be called "It's the King Kong-complex, stoopid"

They're the same ones who used to steal the mobile phones it is alleged. Naughty monkeys.

actually, i didnt see king kong because I HATE MONKEYS.

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Why the monkey hate? Have you had some experienced some monkey-related trauma in the past?

C J (C J), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

"The monkey inside of you that you are afraid of just wants your love."

Bnad (Bnad), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

aw, sunny, yeah. in the past 10 years, i have moved from hate to dislike to disinterest re: monkeys. marmots i like though! those squirrel monkeys are kind of marmot-like and pretty cute, but there's something worrisome about their eyes and bare ears.

haha, xpost

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, I now have this brilliant image of a troup of trained monkeys going around nicking the phones of people who are being self important phone twats.

The thread title could have been a bit more helpful. I mean "MONKEYS!" could mean anything - surely it could have been "MONKEYS ON THE LOOSE IN LONDON!!!" would have got more hits.

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

i wish some monkeys would also let loose some baby tigers or baby elephants in a park. now that would be cute.

rrrobyn sharkattack battleforcenet (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

xp

why? they move in a creepy weird way and screech a lot. same reason i don't like bob dylan, really.

Ben Affleck could play Leader of the Freedom Monkeys.

It's finally happened: uniformed police monkeys are on the payroll in Thailand. Is this how it starts? Will they get elected into parliament next? When will the Monkey Revolution finally come?!
