I remeber watching Gloria Reuben from ER on a talk show. She said that playing an HIV-positive character on the show made her understand what it was like to have AIDS.

natalie portman said playing anne frank made her a better person, if i recall correctly

you know, these things sound silly out of context, but if you step back and think of them as actual people, neither evangeline lilly nor nathalie portman's statements sound particularly stupid to me. gloria reuben, on the other hand...

evangeline's comment isn't silly at all.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

so normal people think that buying their own clothing and applying their own makeup is super-noteworthy and special? who the hell is this chick anyway that she gets to be all backward-looking and wistful like "the best i ever felt on the red carpet..."?? get one career first.

"i'm so wild and carefree, i gave my stylist the afternoon off"

gothic Buddhist meets Old Hollywood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe she meant that she felt great because she'd done her own hair and make up, as opposed to being professionally styled into something she didn't feel comfortable with.

"so normal people think that buying their own clothing and applying their own makeup is super-noteworthy and special?"

um, no. but if you're a famous actress, doing this *is* special. is it 'super-noteworthy'? not really, but what do you expect from celeb interviews?

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

"famous"

gothic Buddhist meets Old Hollywood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:49 (nineteen years ago)

more famous than, you know, momus.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:53 (nineteen years ago)

audrey hepburn did it better in roman holiday.

gothic Buddhist meets Old Hollywood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:54 (nineteen years ago)

"More Famous Than Momus," clearly the new catchphrase for ANY press release.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 July 2006 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

JBR, you're being massively obtuse here if you don't think an assload of people don't know the female lead on one of the most successful new dramas of the past couple of years.

"famous"

Famous enough for little old you to be seething away on a message board about her.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 28 July 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

I'm w/ Roughage Crew

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't see anything wrong with her statement. Actually I do find it endearing and in some way admirable she did this. Imagine the pressure to be pretty/perfect. I know you can shrug it off, but I think on the whole being an actress/singer/whatever... oh yeah FAMOUS person comes with a lot of pressure. You can say, the hell, or fuck they earn so much money, but still... imagine being talked about on ILX. ;-)
