I've just bought my ticket for the Saturday and am very excited about this - looks like there might be a big crowd of us and the line-up is pretty fucking good.

Who's in then? I'm keeping this separate from the Rolling London Dancing Thread as I know there are a few people going who don't check that regularly. Here is where we exchange tips, make plans, convince people to join us etc.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 31 July 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

me me me me me me

this is my BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 31 July 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

the aim is to outdo last year, btw! (last year = 3 days of no sleep)

so far i think: saturday night cross central, sunday night either day 2 of cross central OR jeff mills at lost, monday afternoon drinking in yet-to-be-determined park, monday night lovelife, maybe t bar after that, remember to take tuesday off work

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 31 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

i think the line-up is RUB but will be there on the Saturday anyway.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 31 July 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'm actually pretty tempted by this. If you took the good stuff from both days and put them in one day it'd be a worldbeater, but still

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 31 July 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

I have a ticket on the way.

Ed (dali), Monday, 31 July 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey, there's like indie bands and stuff.

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Monday, 31 July 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

FOLK bands, never mind indie ;)

i also haf my ticket for this, hurrah for young persons dancing!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 31 July 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Who are these folk bands of which you speak?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 31 July 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

Are the 18th Day of May folk or something?

I'm tempted. I just don't like the look of "til 5am" - I just don't have that much stamina.

Her Royal Kateness (kate), Monday, 31 July 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
Bump. What are people's rough plans in terms of getting there and meeting up beforehand? I'm working on the assumption we'll all get separated at some point in the proceedings but it'd be nice to all arrive together.

Also, what is a sensible time to arrive, bearing in mind we're unlikely to be leaving at anything approaching a sensible time? I'm considering going to see Spurs v Everton beforehand and want to know whether I should knock this plan on the head.

I also hear rumours of extortionate booze prices - can anyone confirm/deny?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

last time i was in canvas, for the soulwax night, anna-marie got 1x double vodka cranberry and 1x bottle of water, and she didn't get any change from a tenner.

last year at tdk, i don't believe i drank that much.

i've no idea what my crew's plans are - last year we went round to sophie's flat for drinks in the afternoon, i'd invite others round but the sheer volume of people coming would not fit in her small flat.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

i will probably be getting there around 10 or 11. i didnt realise it started so early (5!), i have other dayime plans. if anyone else is arriving that time, lets meet up first, otherwise i guess i will just see you all in there

-- (688), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

I was assuming it'd be bands up to 11, DJs after. Although I'd no idea why I made that assumption.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

I just discovered, tucked away on the Cross Central site, a small apology saying that one of their proposed stages didn't meet H&S regulations and so they have dropped a number of bands from the Saturday (although they didn't feel able to change any of their advertising). Including, it seems, Field Music - which is a shame.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

not really ;)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

i remember someone mentioning that one of the stages wasn't happening, but i'd assumed they'd squeeze everyone on to the other stages...

so yes, saturday afternoon plans, then?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

Meet at the King Charles mid-afternoonish?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

I wanted to go to Cross but I'm making do with the Metro festival in Clapham Common cos my gf got us free tickets - anyone going?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

I think that may have been me making noises about the bill being slashed, Carsmile. Apparently they found out after all the promotional material had gone to press.

Everyone I am interested in seeing appears to be still playing, although I think this might be a 'just drift and see what happens' type event.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i will be using that approach.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

Hey! I'm going to this. I've never FAPed before, despite being at loads of things loads of other ilxors are at, but it would be nice to put faces to names.

I think we're meeting in the Lincoln Lounge on York Way quite early.

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

OH NOES!!! Fancyapint is down!!!

Jerry , where is this bouzer?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

just use beerintheevening, go on, don't worry no-one need to know.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

but but, it's so rubbish...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

King Charles is here.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

uh-oh. i think i've been there and it was rubbish ;) sorry, that's not very helpful is it?

haha, there is someone called oskar meltzer djing, i wonder if he is related to R??

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

I went there the other week before Scritti Politti and it was fine - And Hot Chip were drinking there too!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

Was the Lincoln Lounge where we all met before Alan Braxe at the Key? That's surprisingly good given its location but bad for a largeish group, as there's only really one big seating area.

King Charles looks fine. Will you still be there at 5.30-6ish when I get back from the football?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

oh ok, it might not be the same place actually...

yes, what time is "mid-afternoon" :) i'm not intending to get too p!ssed and then have to go home early...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

Someone organise me. Should I maintain beard?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

From 4pm in the Charles?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 24 August 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Beard?!? Are you going to twist cannon starting cable in it and set it on fire like a proper pirate?

Goldene Schnitt (kate), Thursday, 24 August 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

Beard? Does this mean:

a) arm candy to appear heterosexual
b) appalling ginger facial pubes

The people must know.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 24 August 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone who's been before let me know whether we'll get some sort of handy Glasto-esque pocket-sized listings thing, so we actually know what's going on when?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 August 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

i was also wondering this. i bet you have to walk around and guess though ;)

i have remembered the main thing i disliked about that pub and it was its previous name, which was the DO-YOU-SEE-tastic "the craic house", oh and in a very real sense, dear...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 25 August 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

they had posters up here and there listing who was on where last year. they may have had pocket listings too but i didn't see these.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 25 August 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

People are now meeting in the Driver, on Caledonian Road, rather than the King Charles, which is shut.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 26 August 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

I am the only person supid enuff to going to this on Sunday only. :(

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Saturday, 26 August 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I was going to this, rather than returning from the Metro's 'Cardiff Calling' before Snow Patrol headlined (with a decent hour of Josh Wink to see me off, to be fair). Some might say this is the life I chose

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 26 August 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

my brain hurts

-- (688), Sunday, 27 August 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

did you afterparty?

Sorry I left but the music got really dull and it was the same EVERYWHERE

Ed (dali), Sunday, 27 August 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

i feel relatively chipper now (4pm), and had a lot of fun Optimo were great, especially as we (me, cis, starry) had a corner with enough room to dance in :)

also, am i going round the twist or is one of the youngblood brass band an (ex?) ilx0r?

still can't quite understand why all those boys needed a poo though, i've never seen queues for cubicles like it...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 27 August 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

also: FOUR QUID for a skanky bottle of stella, yr having a laff???

as a chap at the bar said to me, "maybe if the beer was cheaper people wouldn't take so many druqs"

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 27 August 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

i went to egg but the queue was long so i walked home

-- (688), Sunday, 27 August 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Weatherall was classic but I'd come off the boil by optimo and found it a bit dull and by then they were playing the same lumpy tech house all over the site. Oh for a bit of D&B around then (psy trance/acid techno being a little too much to hope for)

Ed (dali), Sunday, 27 August 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

BOSH TENT

stop moving. (cis), Sunday, 27 August 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

I had a fucking great time. Weatherall and Optimo were the best (Carousel!) plus whoever was playing that fantastic Border Community-type stuff in the Key early on. Ellen Allien was good but I was in the mood for something a bit less minimal, Ivan Smagghe very dull these days.

That early 90s chart rave tent was EXACTLY what I needed to get going early on (N-Trance - SL2 - Livin Joi - Utah Saints was perfect) and true to form it was the last soundsystem going after everything else had closed down. Strings of Life and Pacific State were the last two tracks!

Overall I thought they struck a good balance between serious DJs and people playing big hands-in-the-air anthems that everyone knows, so I'd imagine it was pretty difficult for even the casual punters to get intimidated.

The best thing though, was just knowing so many people wandering around and it never feeling too crowded or difficult to find people. 35-strong raving crew I salute you!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 28 August 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

none of my pics came out, except this one, and even then...

Sunday was kinda boring except for Booka Shade--too much Bromide House in every room. I danced to drum and bass for about the first time in ten years though and it was fun!
