The Mountain Goats are doing an instore show at Easy Street Records in Lower Queen Anne at 11pm, preceding the release of the new album at midnight. Just wanted to gather up folks for a possible pre-show dinner somewhere. I'm positive Jaqqie and Robert will be in on this, as they'll be in town. Who else is in besides us? Jen? Kate? Morley? Jergins? A. Ling?

Roti? Racha? Bamboo Gardens? Pagliacci? Blue Water Grill? Pesos? Ten Mercer? The Melting Pot? or other places?

No Mr. Jaq, but I'm in. Just got my schedule squared away yesterday - westside from 8/13-8/27, minimum. Any and all food options are fine with me! I like the idea of taking over Racha, then storming across Mercer enmass for tMGoatiness.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, immediate proximity sounds tempting. Also, Racha is underrated, and can accomodate large parties pretty well.

And - full bar.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you all getting drunk without me? WAH.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:02 (seventeen years ago) link

You and your swank LA and your chi-chi Amoeba in-store two days later, Raggett.

Is there a regular show scheduled for that week as well? Can't imagine there is just an in-store. I am a maybe for Fapping at 11 on a Monday night. Just depends on how busy work is that week, I guess.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:10 (seventeen years ago) link

http://www.mountain-goats.com

There's just three west coast in-store shows... Easy Street/Seattle on Monday, Amoeba/SF on Tuesday, Amoeba/LA on Wednesday... then they head east to do non-record-store shows in the midwest and eastward.

Since tMG are battling it out with Built To Spill for Non-Seattle Band That Plays Seattle The Most at this point, I'm not going to complain.

Hahahahahahaha! Eating good Thai food, getting drunk, staggering across busy street, wandering about excellent music store, and hearing/seeing tMG without you! :)

(not that I'd rub it in or anything...)

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, we all love you a lot, Scott, so you better get your fucking ass to Lower QA that night or else we'll have to love you slightly less. :D

dottie nuttie dach nach dtnt hhhhhhhh (donut), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I might be in on this too.

Yeah WHATEVER.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 August 2006 21:34 (seventeen years ago) link

You're pouring it on thick, Donut, and it's working.

Rickey, you should definitely come!

Scott CE (Scott CE), Saturday, 5 August 2006 23:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Rickey, hells yeah! I owe you a CD-R and, like, lots of other things anyway... booze is a good start. :)

Tell Rachel to come over too.

I never see any of you guys, so I guess I'll have to go, sigh :)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Sunday, 6 August 2006 04:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm there. Racha sounds like a plan, but I'm really willing to go anywhere except Kidd Valley or KFC or Dick's, so if the restaurant changes, it's no problem for me.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Sunday, 13 August 2006 06:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to bump this to say i'll be there. Jaq and I had dinner there the other night and it was excellent (and, as Donut mentione,d underrated). Also all y'all are invited to my house for croquet and drinks the night before. Check the other Seattle thread for details.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 23:02 (seventeen years ago) link

ok, everything was fun last night.. dinner, the performance, all that was excellent.

Just a couple of "I, Anonymous" type scribes to a couple of people I don't know who were at the performance, first...

* the reason everyone at the in-store yelled at you to shut up in unison was because -- perhaps -- not only bitching about not playing songs off a certain album but also admitting you were drunk, agitated, and belligerent about it -- and then admitting that to the performer himself is not even close to being a good thing to express in the middle of said performance.

* I don't know if you exist or not, as you are still officially a rumor to me as I was off to the side in a HUGE crowd of youngsters and not in front to witness you, but there's an unwritten rule about a stage being a performer's domain. Getting up on the edge of the stage to do a hugglezy crowdsurf is cool in that neighborhood-kid-using-your-inclined-driveway-as-momentum-for-teh-awesome-skateboard-maneuver kind of way, and is colloquially permissible, and all that good stuff. However, if the rumors are true, crawling onto the stage like some feral animal to drink out of the performer's watter bottle off to the side is not only a blatant invasion of that stage, but it's also what some people might describe "very creepy" behavior. So thank you for disrupting the performer mid-song because of that. You're welcome.

(granted, all in all, it was all good at the end.. but the weirdness did slightly stain an otherwise great night out for all. I was glad to have hung out beforehand with A. Lingbert, Jaq, Kate, Jen, Morley, Jergins, Lisa, and met new friend Mark -- and at long last meeting Pat. :D )

Ah, I thought you might be able to fill those of us who were trapped over in the dvd section with mere "peek-a-boo" views of John's hands when he did the evangelist thing and nothing else of the stage what the hell was going on up there! Still a fun evening and great to be among the first to hear some of the new material live. Also, so good to see everyone prior!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a decent view of him, but I couldn't figure out exactly what was going on. That shouting guy was way annoying. It makes me a little uncomfortable when people shout requests at free shows. I mean, I'd love to hear "Jaipur," but it's his show, and he was obviously interested in trying out new songs live.

Apologies for not coming to the thing, but I've only posted on here a few dozen times, and I don't know any of you. I'm sure you're all very cool, though. If you were crammed next to a skinny guy in a tweed hat, that was me.

Setlist?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmm, what I can remember:

Jeff Davis County Blues
Maybe Sprout Wings
Going to Georgia
New Monster Avenue
Woke Up New
Alpha Omega
Moon Over Goldsboro
One Fine Day
If You See Light
Wild Sage

I know there were others, but I can't quite remember.

clotpoll (Clotpoll), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:27 (seventeen years ago) link

MINNESOTA!

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:35 (seventeen years ago) link

clotpoll, next time you should come. it's not like we're all best old friends or anything. it's that fun kind of semi-awkwardness where you (me) tend to drink way too much.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, how did I forget "Minnesota?" That one was beautiful. And there was the one with the "I've got a message for you" chorus whose title I don't know.

Thanks, I really should. I've never actually met up with people that I've met online, so it's still a somewhat unnerving concept. Also, as a 19-year-old without a fake ID, going out for drinks isn't very easy.

clotpoll (Clotpoll), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

oh and for you other west coasters, it was just J0hn, no Peter. But Peter said Hi.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, as a 19-year-old without a fake ID, going out for drinks isn't very easy.

The next croquet/house FAP, you should definitely be there :)

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

we should do another before it gets too cold and shitty.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

haha so that dreadlocked dude was drinking J0hn's water?!!?! WTF?? (oh so that's why J0hn said "It's okay. I have more water") All I saw was the rustling behind the curtains, and then the Easy Street guy (very politely, it looked) telling him to get out of there.

How does that (drinking the water) even occur to you? And if you really want to take someone's water, maybe you would wait until you weren't doing it on the stage in the middle of a performance?

And yeah, clotpoll, I met Donut, Jergins, and Jaq for the first time on Sunday, so it's not like we're bestest buds by any means.

I tried to find people after the show to say good byes, but there were just way too many people in there. Nice seeing y'all. I'll FAP again if another should happen.

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

There could be FAP-action during Bumbershoot weekend...

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:06 (seventeen years ago) link

True. I don't plan to spend every hour at the festival all 3 days (if even all three)

wrapped up like a DOUche in the middle of the NUT (donut), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:09 (seventeen years ago) link

nor do i. it's overwhelming, looking at it, thinking about it.

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Aw, Minnesota! Lucky sods.

Anyway they are all nice people and I will vouch for them, so you shouldn't fear meeting them (nor me when I next wander up to Seattlesville).
