What's the most annoying cartoon ever made?

Ever see the one where Elmer Fudd spends the whole cartoon trying to blow out a candle? That gets my vote.

Justyn Dillingham, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Those two very, very badly misjudged Bugs Bunny ones where he isn't the smart alec and perpertrator of the cartoon's misdeeds, and is beaten at every turn by a stupid fucking tortoise.

Chris Lyons, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Probably any WB "Roadrunner" cartoon, even tho' they're all great as well. I *so* want wil e. coyote to catch that little fux0r! It drives me mad!

GARFIELD!!!!

The Superfriends, Space Ghost, and Dr. Katz

The former is just corny, aside from the occasional brilliance, like the Rock And Roll Space Bandits episode. The latter two because I nearly get seizures whenever I watch them. Something about the refresh rate of a paused Space Ghost character just gives me migraines. Same with Dr. Katz characters...

As Scouse Mouse once said, that was the best thing ever!

Ally C, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Whatever it is, you can be sure MTV had a hand in it. Unless it's *Sheep in the Big City* or something involving Scrappy Doo.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 1 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Rugrats. I can't stand that awful, awful animation style. All the characters look like shrivelled old demons trapped in infant bodies. Their voices are beyond annoying. and the plot of most episodes drive me up a wall. I've gotten more used to it since that feature film came out, but used to be that any sight of the show would cause the hairs on the back of my neck to stand on end.

Scrappy Doo

I *gave* you the chance, Mike. But you have chosen the way of PAIN!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Dude, Scrappy Doo is fucking annoying! But, I'd actually agree with the first response about bugs bunny. That cartoon annoys the shit out of me. It's either that one or the opera-based one with Elmer Fudd singing, "Kill the Waaab-biiiit".

MY FAVORITE cartoon is the one about the cat who hates people until he is rocketed to the moon, where he encouters scissor creatures that cut him up into paper dolls. When he gets back to earth, people are stepping all over him and he's kissing the sidewalk, talking about how much he loves it here on earth. funny!

Nude Spock, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No talkin bad bout Space Ghost! That show is BRILL-EE-YUNT. I thought this thread was going to be about newspaper comics and I was all ready to type "Family Circus" but then I thought - mm too easy, maybe "Amy" (in the Boston paper! URK it's the WORST!) - or "Marmaduke". Marmaduke is really the worst of them all. But then I found out this thread's not about that. So how about all those old WB "injun" cartoons where the voiceover goes "all was quiet in squaw valley" - those are anooying - though I can't believe Hanna Barbera hasn't come in for serious abuse yet. Just think of all the offenders.

My grandparents knew Daws Butler, the guy who did the voice of Huckleberry Hound.

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have nothing against the writing of Space Ghost. It's just the animation is physically painful for me to watch -- in particular, when the characters are paused. It's seizure inducing to me.

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Still images are seizure inducing? I would think the Squigglevision shows (Dr Katz., Home Movies) would be more likely to do something like that. Anyway, to answer the question, it's most certainly the fucking cartoon with the WB frog. The one where nobody believes the kid that the frog is alive. A mind-blowingly annoying premise.

Vinnie, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Still images are seizure inducing?

Lower the refresh rate of your computer monitor. Then display something really bright. See what I mean?

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Aha, I get it now.

Vinnie, Saturday, 2 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

seven months pass...
"Sheep in the Big City". If there is a God, the creator of this abomination will get painful, pus-oozing, unremovable tumors all over his body.

Wile E. Coyote = Sisyphus = Albert Camus and his parable of existentialism in a series of cartoons?

For the love of god someone please explain to me why Scooby Doo is so popular.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

Stoners need something to watch, yes? And when I was young, I thought it was all cool -- even all those celebrities from the seventies that I didn't recognize! "Mama Cass, who?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

scooby doo is bloody awful. oh yes!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nontalkative Bunny is the worst. cartoon. EVER.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tiny Toon Adventures was cloying, derivative, smug and unfunny. At least, script-wise. A few unfortunate episodes produced by a different group of slave-labor Koreans actually embodied those horrendous traits in the way the show was actually animated, too. Spielberg's attached his name to worse things, but most of them have come since.

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 22 September 2002 18:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

i guess you didn't like animaniacs either nate?

anyone see that heartbreaking disney where donald duck is trying to get some deserved sleep and the water keeps dripping... oh god oh god the worst cartoon ever.

bob zemko (bob), Sunday, 22 September 2002 20:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Scooby Doo" is utter crap- ppl who think that it's funny/clever/original to remark that Shaggy & Scoobie are stoners or that Velma's really a lesbian are even worse.

I stand by all WB opera episodes. "What have I done?/I killed the rabbit/poor little buddy/POOR LITTLE WABBIT!"

Daniel_Rf, Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have yet to hear anyone explain why they LIKE Scooby Doo. I guess it might be funny to yell "And I would have gotten away with it if not for you meddling kids!" the first 50 times, but couldn't they have thrown in a few actual jokes now and again?

The worst cartoons, however, are any post-1960 Warner Bros. output. I'm thinking of any Roadrunner cartoons made without Chuck Jones, the truly dismal cartoons that paired up Daffy and Speedy Gonzales (a duck chasing a mouse? I mean, I can understand a CAT, but a duck?) and anything with lame new characters like Cool Cat.

Spongebob Squarepants and Ren & Stimpy tie for shows that have earned my eternal flaming hatred. New cartoons suck.

i used to love scooby doo when i was a kid 'cause it was all about ghosts and monsters (even though it was actually a hotel proprietor in a fright mask). it got shit when they introduced scrappy.

I would like to see a special episode of Spongebob Squarepants where he is caught, eviscerated, dried out and sold in department store. THAT would be funny!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

Do people dare to diss "What's Opera Doc"? Especially here, where we spend way too much time trying to obliterate the line between high and low culture, a line which Chuck Jones erased in the Fifties? And that's not even considering the editing or the light effects.

does anyone else remember CLUTCH CARGO this godawful cartoon with real mouths inserted into cartoon faces, no shit.
it used to turn my stomach but i had to watch it out of some inexplicable morbid fascination.

Dude the 3-D Transformers sequel that came on at 5am was the absolute worst.... clumsy horrid shit... they were all "animals" yet rendered with CGI?? GREAT IDEA.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 04:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yeah, that 3D transormers made no sense. They were like stuck on an island and there were only like 10 different robots. (Hello, the whole point of transformers was their infinite variety.)

You hataz need to step off the sponge.

Most the newspaper comics are horrid outside Boondocks and Fox Trot. "The Dad is just like me only not funny." -Homer on Drabble. The one salvagable thing about the Jesus Circus are the mock reviews on Amazon.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 05:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha, the best thing about bad comic strips are the brilliant references to them on The Simpsons.

"Are you the creator of Hi & Lois? Because you are making me laugh!"

Most the newspaper comics are horrid outside Boondocks and Fox Trot.

Oh, let's not even go there. Talk about a plethora of mediocrity...

But the most evil and unfunny of them all is "Cathy". She probably set feminism back twenty years with her preoccupation with her weight and getting a man. She is like a badly drawn Bridget Jones.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

Man that shaggy was so baked.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

The St. Paul Pioneer Press used to run Cathy and Sylvia right next to each other. Reading them one right after the other was like watching Mrs. Poole from The Hogan Family getting a piledriver from Suzy.
