No, it was underwear that killed the thread. Ball-talk was afire.

Balls killed the thread for me. Too much danger of an attorney wandering in to see what I'm up to.

Sweet italian sausage in marinara sauce with grated provolone cheese, loaf of French bread, bottle of red.

Ohhh. Goat curry sounds kind of good.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Maddie made it the other night, after we found out that the dollar store on the corner has a back room with halal meats and assorted Indian food products.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese, spinach, and chives; wild rice; bottle of white.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Jello salad with grapes, mandarin orange slices, and whipped cream; fish sticks; glass of Ovaltine.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I think for dinner tonight I'm going to have my standby of noodles (probably ramen but maybe other) with poached eggs, unless the roommates are doing something better.

I wish I could find the boulliony seasoning that goes in ramen noodles seperate from the packaged noodles.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Pork chops in a mango-jalapeno sauce, also with wild rice, side of green beans.

haha Jaymc keepin it real. Crackers REPRASENT!

I am making steak & provolone sandwiches with some caramelized onions and hot mustard tonight, and I will consume it with Beck's Octoberfest beer that I accidentally bought. (I thought it was Beck's Dark because of the packaging.)

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I've never successfully poached an egg (but I've only tried once or twice).

Chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese, spinach, and chives

Or chicken breasts stuffed with goat cheese and cranberries, mmm.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

That sounds great, Dan.

One horrible tendency that I'm going to have to face up to is that when I'm alone for dinner, I make zero effort to cook. I'm as likely to have cheese and crackers or scrambled eggs as anything. My resolution is to have a little more self-respect and learn to make some new dishes when the pressure is low.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

They're sort of poached eggs. I boil the noodles till they're almost done, turn the fire off and put my raw eggs in the water, wait 4 minutes, drain it and they're yummy.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, nice.

That reminds me, I need to make spaghetti carbonara again soon.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, me too. This is most days out of the week, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I tend to put some effort into things, with my semi-homemade meals.

This reminds me, I have some chicken at home that's sitting in brine. If it's not raining I'm going to grill it.

Man, I've been nice to Matth3w P3rp3tua for two years and he still hasn't posted a C4n4st4 song. Meanwhile Cutty, who snipes at him on ILM and Noize Board all the time, gets his band's song posted. We must really suck, huh?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe you should buy him a pizza. A big pizza.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm hungry.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I picked up a fat block of muenster on the way home with an eye towards putting it on some (veggie?) burgers tonight. However, my newfound willpower was NO MATCH for the power of cheese. I got out the triscuits and punished that shit as soon as I got home.

Maybe you should've played hard to get!

Which band is his?

Anybody for the cubs game tonight? I have a free ticket.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I love White Ninja. And it's a product of Sask!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 22:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Man oh man, I only learned tonight that our oven does not have a broiler. We've lived here since April 1. This makes me: 1. ashamed that I have not cooked enough to discover this sooner, and 2. PISSED THAT WE HAVE NO BROILER. Damn it! It's a nice stove/oven, but this is really terrible news for some of the cooking operations I want to undertake now that it's actually cool enough outside to run the thing.

The steak provolone was teh bomb shit, though, even though I couldn't throw it under the flames to brown the cheese a little.

Kenan's pork-talk above inspired me to pick up a pack of chops while at the store grabbing a few odds and ends. Tomorrow I will make them with a vegetable and some kind of sweet-hot sauce.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 14 September 2006 00:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Should that have gone in I Love Cooking? Oh, who cares...

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 14 September 2006 00:06 (seventeen years ago) link

No broiler? How is that possible? Even my cheapy oven (in Chicago) has a broiler. Use a Bic lighter.

Buy a torch. Good for when you make creme brulée for me as well.

Topic for discussion:

Is there any circumstance in which it is justifiable to fart in an elevator?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 14 September 2006 01:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes. If the only other option is to shit.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Thursday, 14 September 2006 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

As long as you can get away with it quietly.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 14 September 2006 03:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Or if you just don't care. Then it is OK to fart in an elevator.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Thursday, 14 September 2006 03:47 (seventeen years ago) link

If you are pregnant and the elevator gets stuck between floors.

i wound up heating up a frozen pizza. i bought two loaves of bread and some cheese in anticipation of making my long-sought after grilled cheese but forgot about that plan until i was halfway through my pizza. on the plus side i picked up most of the trash in my apartment and everywhere but my bedroom is now free of dirty clothes. and i picked up a replacement cable to i can resume burning my vinyl to my laptop for ipod use. now i just need some headphones.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:00 (seventeen years ago) link

We had veggie chilli for dinner. MIAM!

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:36 (seventeen years ago) link

dammit! that reminds me that i still haven't bought a can opener. electric one shit the bed about 3 weeks ago and i don't have a manual one. unless my swiss army knife counts.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:41 (seventeen years ago) link

That's gross. Just get a manual one. The electric ones just take up counter space.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:47 (seventeen years ago) link

no, the electric one mounted under a cabinet. or shelf in my case. i've been meaning to buy one for weeks and whenever i go out i keep forgetting. i need a can opener and picture frames. can opener and picture frames. can opener and picture frames.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, then, they use electricity.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:50 (seventeen years ago) link

My after-school snack turned out to be dinner last night.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:52 (seventeen years ago) link

otto, are you familiar with the peppermints?

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:55 (seventeen years ago) link

i know for a fact that i owned at least two manual ones as recently as last christmas. they were handy because they both had bottle opener notches on them. they may not have made the move from my last apartment.

sarah, peppermints being a band? if so no. i saw you aren't on the bill with lynard's innards at the note. good band, shitty shitty venue. i was there friday and i'd forgotten how much i hate that place. craptacular in every regard.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Ha ha. We ended up turning that show down, but I just agreed to a show on 11/9 there with the peppermints. Hopefully, that wasn't the WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.
