shanah tovah to all. i'm feeling shite but hope to make it to my local progressive shul tomorrow - to hear a five-hour amidah and a moog-driven torah reading no doubt, haha.

darren (darren), Friday, 22 September 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

I thought this thread was about some American actress.

We are observing this by bookending the fast with meals at our favorite Palestinian restaurant. Also, my son is playing in an 8 a.m. soccer game and then going to services, while I (the only goy in the house) then go on to coach my daughter's team's game while she stays home like Sandy Koufax.

My dad said shana tova to me last night on the phone. I had no idea.

l'shana tova!

growing up, we'd celebrate by "casting away our transgressions", i.e. feeding the ducks in the park.

patita (patita), Friday, 22 September 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

I'm gonna celebrate with a double bacon cheeseburger at lunch.

I'm driving to Minneapolis tonight for a gig, and I probably will suck something similar down for dinner.

You know what I think would be hot in a dude? An uncut Jew.

Happy New Year, all

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 22 September 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

my wife (a Hungarian who was raised Catholic) keeps insisting that she is going to prepare a traditional "Yom Kippur meal". I have tried to tell her that there's no real traditional menu associated with the high holidays (apart from the apples n honey I guess...?) but she doesn't believe me.

Please note that for Passover she also insisted that she was going to make home-made matzos. She didn't believe me when I said nobody does that, and all my Jewish relatives laughed at her when she said she was gonna do it. :(

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

tell her to make the challa.

That's pretty convenient, what with the fasting an dall.

That was a gooooood bacon cheeseburger! It had jalapenos, too, for extra judaic authenticity.

I am eating Italian salami RIGHT NOW

She could make tzimmis.

If she makes challah, she should make it round.

I'm celebrating Rosh Hashanah the same way I celebrate every year - doing nothing and then at the last minute really regretting that I didn't find some synagogue or friendly Jew home to go to and wallowing in guilt and emptiness.

A-ron OTM.

g00blar (gooblar), Saturday, 23 September 2006 07:22 (nineteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

Tonight I went to my in-laws and listened to a bunch of Israelis speak Hebrew for a few hours while I sat quietly and tried to look properly husband like. I guess that's a notch above wallowing in guilt and emptiness, at least.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 13 September 2007 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

I went for 15 minutes so my mom would stop guilting me about it.

Jordan, Thursday, 13 September 2007 04:43 (eighteen years ago)

At least I didn't have to talk about the Syria airstrike thing with them - it's almost worse sometimes when my in-laws' friends speak English.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 13 September 2007 04:54 (eighteen years ago)
